So my relay was buzzing and making funky sounds but the lights still flashed.  However, now they stopped working.  The relay sometimes makes funky sounds if you plug and unplug it, but no turn signals.  I put a multimeter across the two prongs that plug into the relay, they registered current when I tried to activate the turn signal.

Mine is a an 89, should I just go to kragen and try a wagner 552?  The old relay was a jin yi fl249sd.  12.8 V relay.

The current should be about 3 amps (with the engine off)  if you have the standard 21w bulbs.

If you were actually on the current setting of the meter, indicated by an "I" or "A" or "amps", your signal lights should have come on while the meter was plugged in. You replaced the TSR with your meter. Most meters require you to move the positive (red usually) probe to a different jack specifically reserved for current.

You can replace the TSR with a jumper to test if the wiring/switch/bulbs are good. When you actuate the turn switch, the lights will come on and stay on while holding the switch.

John is right on with the measurements I have made. You can try a new TSR if everything else is fine, or if you are handy with a soldering iron, you can try making better connections in the relay like this:


The resistor and capacitor in the TSR use a pinch type of connection that is subject to vibration and temperature changes. Soldering the connections eliminates this variable.

If it turns out to be the TSR, I'll pay shipping to my zip code for the bad one. I enjoy doing autopsies on things. :?

I put on a bunn 552 from kragen, works fine.  PM me your address for the old one.  I live in 94709.
