Title: crashed my '04
Post by: higgimonster on April 25, 2005, 09:09:05 AM
Well, this happened on the 15th of april so i am a little delayed with the post but I was in the hospital for a little bit

Basically I was coming around a curve (going a little quick) and I hit some sand.  The bike slid out from under me and we (the bike and I) slid into a drainage ditch.
The next thing I knew I was in a hospital bed with a catheter tube, a neck brace, and a really cute nurse (I got a sponge bath later, but that was from some older woman :( ).

I ended up with a collar bone snapped cleanly in half and a chipped bone in my neck.  Thank god I was wearing all my gear though.  No road rash, and my helmet is trashed.  If that was my head I wouldn't be typing this today.

The paramedics cut all of my (brand new) gear off of me :(  But I lived and I have to wear an arm sling and a neck brace.  I consider myself lucky.

The bike was not so lucky.  Although it ran there was some frame damage from the drop into the ditch and the insurance company (progressive) totalled it out.  Well, after my collar bone heals I will be getting another bike, probably an older gs, no more new bikes for me, waste of money for me.

Thank god for the gear, always wear it.  You never know.  Sorry if the typing sucks, I can only get my left hand to the keyboard.

"...catheter tube.." :o . Man that sucks. I know what you mean by hitting the sand and washing out the front...have had it happen several times and, other than errant cages, it is probably my one biggest fear I've always had when riding. I just had it happen to me last week but I was able to get it straightened out...I was very lucky. What I need to do is replace that old original front tire, man is it ugly looking. Glad to hear you are gonna be ok...no road rash!! Lucky lucky you. Praise the gear eh? Love the little meek twin, Africa, and this forum.
