Title: Still got that same noise.... plus a new one.. please help
Post by: liston127 on April 27, 2005, 11:13:07 AM
It sounds like a smooth clunk when I have the bike's clutch in and i am just coasting or when i am sitting at a light. It isn't there when you first start the bike and it decreases noticebly after you have gone about 22 miles??? I am going to try an oil change and use thicker oil and i am also going to tighten the chain b/c there is about 1.3 inches of play in it. ( i heard it should be closer to .8 ) Another thing that is weird is it sounds like the brakes are bad. The bike only has 990 miles on it (926 when i bought it ) but it makes that loud squeak noise when i use the back brakes. I checked the pads and they seem fine, is there something else that may be causing it? Let me know.

This is an irritating but harmless noise that is not uncommon on these bikes.  Do a Search for "camshaft endplay".  (Make sure to check "Search for all terms".)  You will find a half dozen message threads on the topic.

Again, an annoying but harmless and common occurrence.  If you search for "squeal" by author gsJack you will find 3 or 4 threads with good info.
