Title: Gear review: Teknic Lightning Jacket
Post by: roma258 on April 28, 2005, 08:33:59 AM
I'm new, so I'll try to make a contribution when I can. Recently bought a Teknic Lightning Jacket online from newenough.com. They have a closeout on last year's style, so it only cost $125 for a full leather jacket with removable lining. The size is 46 and the fit is downright perfect (I'm 5'10 170), snug but not tight. Ordered on a friday, came in this wednesday...not bad at all. Took it out in 50 degree weather yesterday and it felt very comfy. If anyone's interested, I can put up some pics later.

Can't wear leather in Texas during the summer  :o  But I thought about getting one of those jackets when I started to ride. I got the Joe rocket mesh instead, heh.

Philly in the summer is very hot too (and humid), I might end up investing in a mesh jacket too.

Ive got the Teknic lightning as well. Used it ALLLLL Winter here in cali with a pair of thermals underneith. Nice and warm, a tad to warm for cali summer though. But mine also happened to get crash tested. I had put a spine plate in it, and kevlar armor in the shoulders and elbow (replacing the foam armor in the shoulders and it didnt come with elbow armor). In my wreck when i seperated my shoulder, my kevlar armor in the shouler cracked, but the jacket held up nicely. Back plate is fine, as is the rest of the jacket/armor. I plan on still using it with my new bike. I do however, need to pick up a helmet, im gonna nab a new KBC VR-1 for $249, the exact same helmet I was wearing when I crashed. Im 1 for 1 so why change what works?

I don't like JR's armor.  it's almost like foam... compared to the alpinestars jackets wiht good armor

I switched out the foam armor with the JR GP stuff from New Enough.  Now I have an extra layer of hard plastic between me and the ground.

Soo... everyone knows that those CE back pads can come in different sizes, right?  I'm giving mine to a friend after I got a little one shipped to me from another store    :x
