Title: smoke from crankcase breether?
Post by: GRU on April 29, 2005, 10:59:45 AM
i noticed smoke and fuel comming from the crankcase breether hose so now i'm wondering is that because my right carb float hight is too high or is it something else

btw, i'm saying this because i checked the float hight on both carbs and the right one is like 4 mm too high  :x  and it causes the fuel to leak from the filter when the bike is not running and is on PRI

Fuel?  :? . A little smoke I could understand but the fuel thing doesn't sound too good. You are talking about the line from the upper part of the valve-cover right? Smoke is going to be blow-by from the combustion chambers, and a very small amount is not bad...can even be considered normal if there are a few miles on the motor. But fuel shouldn't come from there unless you are getting a horrible fuel wash-down condition which could happen if fuel is running out the carbs. In that case your oil is becoming so diluted that it becomes the consistency of water and that is going to destroy every freakin' wearing surface in the engine.

If you're talking about the drain hose from the air-box then the smoke is probably from back-firing through the carbs and the fuel is just accumulation from where you have fuel running out of that carb with the bad float height. In that case you could still get wash-down in the cylinders and that is not a good thing. Love the little GS, Angola (so long Idi Amin, you jerk), and this forum.

Title: blow by

Its blow by, carbon, water, oil, air and gas in varying proportion come out the motor ... if you're talking about bottom of air box hose and if it got lots of gas ... floats over flowing ...
Cool.
