I frequently park my bike in front of a day-care center downtown. When I roll up around 9 or 10 there is always a group of 4-5 year-olds waiting at the fence to greet me. They always get so excited when I wave... it's like being a celebrity or a super-hero for a few seconds of my day.
I have to say I think that the celebrity-status a motorcycle gives you with the tykes has got to be one of the coolest fringe-benefits of cycling. Just wanted to share.
cheers
vtlion,
Yeah, I totally hear you. Little kids are absolutely enthralled by motorcycles. the only problem is, I always get "do a wheelie!!" as part of their enthusiasm. Sorry kiddo. not even if I wanted to

Riz

p.s. the chicks also mistake the Joe Rocket armor for beefcake, which is a bonus.

Same with me and kids, it's fun; also I get the same do a wheelie thing a lot. Actually I rode through campus a couple weeks ago to hype up a d-Aces stunt show that my mc club was hosting, and i was getting "do a wheelie" from the college students. I guess some kids never grow up :dunno:
Little kids love my bike. To them it's the coolest thing ever. Maybe the parents will see that not all bikers are creeps cuz I'm always nice to little kids who run up to look at the bike in parking lots.
And yes, sometmes I wish I could do wheelies on demand
When i first learned wheelie on my 600 I would do it on my street. About 10 little kids would come out and sit on the curb watching (along with my mom). I remember one kid asking my mom, is that your kid? He could hurt himself doing that ya know.... my mom just sighed and said she knows, lol. But every time I start the bike up outside my house, the kids come runnin, and I always deliver. I love puttin on a show for the kiddies.
pfft... you all must forget how evil little kids truly are. you think they're watching you being cool, while they're just waiting for you to fall flat on your ass.
Ive done that in front of them too :)
*NOTE: When skitching, 5mph is alot faster than it looks, do not try to walk the bike to a stop.*
when i came out of the movies two little kids were around and saying my gs 500 can beat a 1600 katana that was parked right by me.
If the Katana remained parked, you could totally whomp on it. All a matter of "frame of reference"!
I get a lot of little kids waving when I ride around too..and at work, a bunch of my co-workers ride so that promotes a lot of commradery (sp?) too.
That's part of the fun of having a bike, sharing in the fun with others..whether they be enthusiasts or riders. w00t!
Kinda funny about the timing of this thread. Yesterday about 7 or 8 kids on bikes were out in the street looking at my GS, and when I came out they all started talking to me the way kids do, "I'll trade you bikes." I rode the GS over to banter, and they looked at me like I was a rock star.
I love that too. It's funny being a girl with a sporty bike, too. A few times I've walked out of stores, carrying my helmet, and a little boy will come up and talk to me, asking me if that's my motorcycle, and saying that he didn't know girls could ride bikes like that. And down the block there are these skateboarder boys, probably around 18 years old, who practice doing jumps and stuff in the street. The first time I rode by them, they started yelling and cheering "It's a chick!!" That made me smile.
I have the gs, 2 four wheelers, a dirt bike and go cart. Im a king in my neighborhood. I get home from work at 4:30-5:00 theres usually a crowd of kids wanting rides or to watch. kinda cool, kinda annoying :dunno:

Don't know why... but a chick on a bike makes me smile too. :thumb:
All the little kids on my street run out to the curb to watch me ride by and wave. This one little girl about 3 or 4 i guess rolled her window down in her moms car and started yelling at me to get my attention so I would look over, her mom yelled at her and told her "stop yelling at that man!" Michael Jackson would love a motorcycle.
just the other day 3 teenagers wanted me to ride a wheelie, i was already at 50mph when i past them. they think every bike can just pull a wheelie at any speed. i think they see the fairings and think it is a powerful sport bike.
There is this school bus that stops right beside my house everyday and one day I was out riding my dirtbike on the street doing catwalks from the bottom of the street to the top in second gear. The kids all stopped to watch me for a few minutes until a cop rolled up. lol for some reason when they saw me take off on my dirtbike and the cop chase after me they all started running like they were gonna get in trouble if they got caught. Now I have to live with the guilt that I taught 15 some odd kids to run from the police. :thumb:
OK, if I ever have kids, all you guys better stay far away from them!
Damn....94Gs beat me to the Michael Jackson *joke*....
In my neighborhood there is a large number of kids - teenagers from 2-3 different neighborhoods that hang out scaring the old ladies ... and all of them come and hang and talk to me about bikes etc ... I am hoping I am a good influence on them ... but anyway ... The old ladies hate me for being friendly and they probably think I am their ring leader ... and that when they scare them ... Its pay back for trying to tell me not to park bikes in my driveway ... OK they scare for no reason ... IMHO harmless normal kids ...
Cool.
Srinath.
A month ago when I dropped by a friends house, some ~7 yr old came up to me (after hiding behind a tree for a while... he came out after I said hi...) and told me that I should be wearing knee pads :tumb: Cool Kid! (I only had my jeans on)... same kid was awed by my back protector... "It's like a Ninja Turtle," he said.
If you ever get the chance to pull along side a school bus, you can knock off 30 waves in no time flat :)
The comments from kids that I find the funniest are the ones like:
1st kid: Woah! Cool bike!
2nd kid, looking at 1st kid: Yeah! But my Dad rides a Harley. My Dad's bike is better than his!
1st kid, obviously annoyed: Oh yeah? Is it blue? Blue is faster!
6 year old kid: Hey mister, if I get permission from my Mom, can I ride your bike?
Another kid stopped me while I was doing some quick shopping. I was fully decked out with my J.R jacket, pants (All leather) Sidi boots, and gloves stuffed in my Arai helmet. He looked at me bright eyed; larger than life and said,"Woah!!! Cool!!! A real life comic book hero!"

thats real good stuff
srinny you should become their ring leader, you can force them to work in your shop for quarts of engine oil...the old ladies that is.
