Title: The Ladies
Post by: ramo on May 06, 2005, 10:33:42 AM
My girlfriend doesnt understand my bike and why i like motorcycles. She will be the passenger but along the way shes alays telling me becareful and kind of freack out if i drive up to 50 miles per hour. But other girls get a kick out of it and want me to pick up the speed to eighty, the thing is my girlfriend will freak out if i told her ive taken other girls out for a spin, she thinks the passenger seat is for her ass only. what do you guys think i would really like some opinons from women.

Stick with your GF if you have something good goin...and take it slow with her until shes comfortable. I have taken a couple girls around, some are more skittish than others, and this one girl was hittin me yellin to go faster...man was that odd, lol.

(BTW i ride a CBR, lol)

I used to take girls for rides all of the time. They would just jump on the back of bike and......especially at the beach. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v64/dgyver/smilies/naughty.gif)
This was back when there were very few sportbikes. Not like now where they are everywhere.

Maybe it is me getting older (b-day is tomorrow) but I hate taking people for rides now. When I was married, I took my wife for one ride and only one ride. I scared the crap out of her when I scraped the fairing on my bike. Must have been the extra weight. The girl I dated before my current gf used to race a RS125 in WERA. A little slow on the street but fast as hell on the track. Have not taken my current gf for a ride. She really wants to go but riding is kind of like a sanctuary for me. I guess I will since I bought her a helmet.

Hmmm thats a tough one.  I think its a personality thing.  Me- well I lean into the turn and such.  But I am a fly weight so I am sure its not even noticed.  All I need is trust... gotta trust who is driving.  I prefer to do the driving personally though.  But other women are differnt.     Guess you just need to talk it out with your gf.  Maybe she isn't the riding type.  Who knows!

Dude my g/f is bad ass! She does not say anything about my riding. I was leaning in the turns and hauling ass. She loved every bit of it. I did have some deep scratch marks on my back from her holding on so freggin tight

Take it easy with her.  I love riding, Buddha Loves You or otherwise.  But she will get use to it, and soon she won't even notice how fast your going.  when riding on the back with my hubby we will go around corners leaning off the bike.

Took my wife for her first ride yesterday (finally feel confident enough) and she loved it, now I didn't go crazy or anything, just ease them into going fast if you must.  Me I'm extremely carefull when she is on, slow and easy I am 1000 times more worried about her safety than mine.

Oh yeah I forgot....the last time I went to the track, my gf went with me and this was when I lowsided. I guess it was a good thing since I was not hurt so it did not bother her too much.

Also, there is a little seat mod that you can do and she will beg you to take her for a ride.

It is very scary to not be in control espeically since she probably hasn't ridden before.  I know the first time I got on the back of a bike I was not comfortable.  Though now I have no problem driving the bike, getting on the back is still a bit of a worry.  Now I know how much could go wrong not matter how much experience the driver has.  I think that if you go slow with her for awhile she will learn to like it and you'll have a good riding partner.

I second Vball.  My GF was very scared of the motorcycle the first couple of times.  After a while of taking it slow she's gotten used it.  Now she actually gets a bit of a kick out of it when I lane split.
A lot of people aren't naturally thrillseekers, you know.  Some kids will jump right on a motorcycle and try popping wheelies and going wot on the first day-  I'll never understand that.  Make a point of taking her out as often as possible on the bike, but take it slow- and I mean really slow, like a honda civic.  Eventually she'll learn to trust it and you and your relationship will be the better for it.  Of course, if you eat shaZam! or do something stupid with her on the bike she may never trust you.  If you are the kind of guy who can't help but scrape pegs all the freakin time, expect to be riding alone or to get one of the crazy girls as a GF.

The second time I went riding with this girl we hang out with, I took a left handed like a 90 degree turn (one street to another) and I guess her foot scraped on the ground. She was laughing REALLY freakin hard when we got back, she said it was cool. THen another girl I took around, my friends sister, I went around the same turn, and in the middle of the turn she sat straight up...god does that REALLY throw everything off....

i keep getting asked, but i'm still scared to give out rides.  if the bike started leaning while standing at a light with someone riding Buddha Loves You, i don't think i have the muscle to keep it up.

Naw... the picture is in the top row on Page 3 of the From the Old Gallery - Member Pics photo gallery.

It's just that all of the old Wall of Fame comments seem to have been lost.  So if you weren't around during the original WOF era, you may not know who is who out there.

PS - Srinath's pic is in the bottom row on Page 2, right between Manjul (the_good_guy, with his old girlfriend Vanessa) and pantablo's wife and son.  :)

Yup thats me!

My jacket is an extra small!  Actually I love that lacket.  I end up washing it a lot though.  The white is visable, cool but does tend to pick up the road grime.  I end up with an area in the front thats clean (thanks to the small fairing) and the rest of the front is gray.  Blech!

Maybe I will work on finding another photo for you all.  Just maybe....

Mine thinks the same thing, but she never wants to use it.  Fine with me though, as someone else stated, riding is sort of a sanctuary for me.  If she found out I gave another chick a ride I would more than likely not have a bike anymore.

hey '04gs500f,

Could you try to re-size your pics before posting them? It's a pain when you have to scroll the screen left and right to be able to read the thread all the time.

Thanks!!

That's odd ...
Manjul and I used to live wihtin 1 mile of each other from 87 to 91 and I didn't meet him till 04 august, and didn't know of him till 2002 or so. Our pics are next to each other ...
Now Werase and I are Id 21 and 22 on this site ... and he's OK 55 miles away.
Coinkidink ... I think so but weird ...
Cool.
Srinath.
