Title: Hey street racers!
Post by: Altruism111 on May 10, 2005, 12:01:31 PM
I want to hear some bragging from all you street racers. I know there are some guys (or girls) out there that have raced cars or other bikes on your GS. Tell me about it!  Did you win or lose?

Ill humor you...

I raced my 99 CBR 600F4 against a 01 YZF 6r. Off the line he misshifted (shifted early)..and I was gone. Hit about 145 and didnt even look to see who won until I was done. Turns out he was able to keep up with me until about 3rd or 4th and for some reason my bike dipped on him. I wont be doin that again though, 140 and up is scary...

I raced a Hayabusa last night from a stoplight.  I got to the next set of lights and thought "man, did I ever kick his ass"... Until a little kid rolled up on his bike (note: his training wheels were off!) and said "hey mister, that other guy turned at that light back there".  Then the little kid beat me to the next set of lights (please refer to previous note about training wheels being off)... but seriously, we're riding GS's.  Of course you're going to out accelerate most cars; who cares?  It's like saying "have you ever raced a dump truck with your 4 door sedan?"  It's all about power to weight ratio.  But remember, "power" means nothing when you have a run-in with the "weight".  Yeah, I know I just blew your mind on that last one.  OK, the shaZam! is creeping up my hip waders now... I'm out.

I smoked this kid on a power wheel once, he got me off the line, but I beat him to the light.

No, but I've raced 4-door sedans with a dump truck.

Can't say I've ever won.  :dunno:  :P

I won't race anyone when I'm on a bike.

I race me sometimes. It never gets any more satisfying though. I think, "This time I'm going to serve myself." and then I just tie.

Every Time!

I'd like to think the GS is pretty quick, but there's this poodle down the street that can whup my ass in a race every time, and it even gives me a head start  :dunno:

Those damn poodles really cheese me off sometimes.  One passed me in a dump truck today with a smug little smile on its face.  That's OK, I later found out it was at a local Vet's office for deworming and I changed the chart to say "neuter with hot fireplace poker".  We'll see how the attitude has changed next time we meet.

That made me laugh pretty damn well....I actually don't race much in my Busa....mainly because no one tries....But I di race an R6 and GSX-R 750 (both my buddies) and it was bad how much I embarassed them.....this bike is sick....as for the GS500, haven't really raced anyone...it is my wife's bike and I rarely take it out....I did ride with my buddy with the R6 with it once, and kind of kept up with him....but not really....

Honestly from what I have read the GS500 should roll most cars....until you start getting into Corvettes and Cobra's....but must mildly modded imports should go down to the GS500...I have read they will go 13.6's in the 1/4 mile....Not too bad, but a far cry from a Busa....Seen times of 9.5's on a stock motor with those and just a gearing change and a lowered suspension....

I have beaten quite a few bigger bikes but not because of the epic power of the GS but because half the people who buy big sports bikes can't ride them and I'm no Valentino Rossi plus I've also been carved up by a pair of CBR250
riders (there so far the only ones that have) and if you think thats bad they also carved up there mate on a new 999 Ducati, boy they were fast I was keeping up with them but started to feel I was going to step over the line so had to back off, but I generally ride with a 1200 Bandit, FZ1 and a BMW1150R and I'm always with them in corners but when speeds open up to 150+Km its a bit to hard to keep up

listen to this one, my friend with a 03 cbr600 f4i thinks if you shift at 8k instead of 14 but make it a smoother shift that you will go faster. I don't even bother to tell him cause what would be the fun in that? well anyways we decided to give eachother a go one night, I had my clutch at the biting point and he had clutch fully disengaged light hits red I take off shift into second at 10-5 and I'm gone. That's the only race I've won against a bike, against cars it's not even a race.

You guys are too funny.  If I take the bike to 7,000 rpm and dump the clutch while grabbing full throttle, it launches real nice.  Sometimes it spins the rear tire and then wheelies, sometimes it hooks up and wheelies. I hold it a foot or so off the ground and then hit second.  Usually bounces up and carries second gear.  Most big bore bikes can't beat me to 40 (too hard to launch on the street) and sometimes I get to 60 ahead of them.
By third gear, it is all over, but I am still laughing.

Isn't that the truth, these bikes launch so well...I think I would get a better 30' time in the GS than the Busa....after that I doubt it....but the way this thing launches is sweet....just enough power to roll...but not enough to flip you over....Too bad there are no 30' sactioned tracks around....
