I want a new airfilter on my GS- baby, and is thinking of a K&N SU-5589.
It should be able to just pop in the airbox (with the restrictor) without any carb. adjustment.
Is there any experince with that filter ?? - I have read this one: http://www.bbburma.net/K&N_AirFilter.htm but it doesn't say anything about the performance/sound or quality of the filter
John
the drop in KN gives a little more power...and sounds a little louder...just a little...at least in my case...maybe its psychological...but still...
Thanks, is it "oiled" from the box ??
John
yes...just drop it in...with restrictor
That sounds stupid, sorry :)
What I mean is, is it ready to put in the airbox (oiled) when you buy it ??
John
Thanks :)
Yes the filter is pre-oiled just drop in and enjoy!
You may want to just save your money. It really doesn't do anything for performance or sound. I've got one, but at least I can say I've got a K&N filter, so there is that. If you really want to make your bike faster for real cheap just buy some riceboy stickers maybe add some chrome and neon, cause that stuff adds ... like 100 HP , or something.

So you think it does nothing for performance? Good luck with those stickers.
if you remove the restrictor it will definately give more power. u will need to rejet however. i personally decided all or none. i went with the K&N lunchbox. just got it in the mail today.
i got lunchbox and exhaust...and the power difference is significant
That's exactly why I bought my SU-5589. At the rate I was putting on miles at the time, I wasn't about to shell out for a new Suzuki paper filter every 7,500 miles (http://www.gstwin.com/every_7500_miles.htm). I don't care to rejet, so I use the K&N with the restrictor ring installed.
Works for me! :thumb:

There is something to be said for "visual horsepower"...
Just like the bike running better when it's clean and waxed..
Its all about your confidence level..
When the bike is clean and shiny, you ride it harder..
When it's dingy from the stench of winter,, you baby it some becuase it looks like a piece of junk that might fall apart at any time..
Besides.. It doesn't take much speed to impress the girls..
But chicks dig neon and chrome..
Faxxxy!

What exhaust did you go with?
hey guys, what is the restrictor you guys are talking about? does the stock one have that and if i remove whatever your talking about will it make any difference. And is it possible to put neons on the gs? Thanks

See my
K&N page.
No, the stock paper filter doesn't have one.
Can't help you with the neons....
Do you guys have a problem with the air flow restrictor coming loose? I just bought the K&N 5589 and I need to use the restrictor since my bike is stock but the restrictor doesn't fit snugly. It's loose and moves around, and as I figured, as soon as I started riding it popped right out. Fortunately it jammed between the airbox and battery bay so I didn't lose it.
