Due to an unforeseen drop of my bike while parking it last week (I'm a doofus) my clutch lever was mangled and I had to replace it. Well, I replaced the clutch lever, but I just realized that since the drop, my speedometer light is out. My tach light is still on, so I'm guessing I just have to replace a bulb or something.
What's the easiest way of going about this?
Thanks, fellas.
Pull the rubber holder out of the back of the speedo and replace the bulb.
I have done this so many times I have it memorized.
Take out the 2 screws on the headlight ring
Remove headlight and disconnect headlight harness
Take out handlebar bolts and move handlebar out of the way
Remove the two nuts that are underneath the "dash" guage assembly (they are either end of the assembly). The other ends of these bolts are visible on top of the "dash" and have chromed flat heads.
Disconnect the guage assembly harness
After the guage assembly is removed from bike, you have to remove 3 or 4 nuts to take the assembly apart.
Pull light socket out of guage
Pull bulb straight out
Replace bulb
Put everything back together.
Hope that helps.
Sounds like a pain in the ass.
Thanks guys.
It's not as bad as it sounds when you are actually doing it.
There's this too: http://www.gstwin.com/led_gague_lights.htm
I haven't done it, but if the lights burn out a lot, it might be worth it...
I think I've had mine out with a little less effort. Let's see if I can remember this.
FOR 500E
1. Remove the 2 bolts holding the instrument panel on.
2. Lift the instrument panel up and remove the 2 small dome nuts holding the speedo down.
3. Lift the speedo out of the plastic bucket.
4. Pull bulb wiring harness plug out of the back of the speedo and replace the bulb.
5. Put it back together.
If the speedo wiring doesn't have enough slack to pull the speedo out you'll need to disconnect the plug inside the headlight shell. Nothing to it really.
