Another Newbie!
I just bought an 97 and I have a couple of questions.
1. Does the throttle cable go Over or Under the crossbar under the fuel tank? (Mine goes over top but there is a picture in the clymer manual showing it going under)
2. Is there any type of a clip or fastener for attaching the choke cable to the carberator? (My choke cable keeps popping out of the slot on the carberator)
3. What is the operating temperature? (Mine seems like it is overheating)
Thanks in advance.
My clutch cable also goes over the "crossbar". That's the way it was when I replaced mine, so I put the new one in the same. There's lots of room under the tank.... the choke I'm not really sure about, I've never looked that closely at it. As for engine temperature, yes it feels like it runs hotter because it's air cooled. I have a infra red thermometer and I believe the engine temp at the cooling fins is usually around 180-210 degrees depending on outside temp.
Welcome!
1. Mine is routed over. The choke is routed under.
2. If the choke is routed over may be the reason it's popping out, but there should be a spring over the cable in between the barrel end and the end of the sheath that maintains tension so the cable doesn't come out. Does your's have this? It looks like a longer spring from a ballpoint pen.

Mine is the same (Throttle over/Choke under), so that is good. I was confused because the clymer manual (page 84 picture 78 ) has both shown routed under.
As for the choke cable mine does have the spring and it is pushed into the slot. I added the spacer for the fork modification and it made my choke cable too short. It was popping out when I would turn the handle bars. I took the spacers out and it seems to be fine. I am going to shorten the spacers and see what happens.
Thanks alot.
I will have questions about tank rust and carb jetting this weekend. I bought POR15 for the tank and got the jets from srinath.
Any tips before I start?
This picture is worth more than 1000 words because I had the spring in the wrong place.
I love this forum!!!
I am going to change it right know!

Anybody still have this picture? The link from this half-decade old thread doesn't work anymore.
