Title: need help trouble shooting
Post by: dirty-d on May 21, 2005, 02:02:34 PM
i just bought an 89 gs500 and the guy i bought it from said it ran perfect everyday, however, i can not get it to run reliably. one day i'll start it and it will run perfectly and then the very next day i would start it and it would idle but as soon as i give it gas it would die. After i adjusted the idle it would move but i would have half the power.  I have been told that it might be a vacuum problem any suggestions. I replaced the spark plugs and the fuel lines as well as cleaned the carbs.

the one part that I am wondering about if it is corect or not is part # 14 on the carberator parts fiche page. there is some open ended tube and it specifies a cap. is this correct?

On mine it was the vacuum opening on the right carb, it's supposed to be capped but mine wasn't.  I guess the cap fell off?

I've had broken rocker arms on my kawasaki...it would idle ok..but as soon as I'd give it some gas and release the clutch, the bike would die.

take a peek at the top end.

P.S. just my 0.2 cent

hmm...I take that back...yes make sure the diaphragm is sliding up ok... Listen to your bike...it might tell you which side needs help.
