Title: Paging weaselnoze and anyone else with a Manta...
Post by: Roadstergal on May 21, 2005, 09:09:49 PM
I've been looking at getting one.  I've read y'alls posts and saw the pics, but I'm just wondering how well the magnetic mounts hold up at freeway speeds and how much weight y'all are putting in it.  I'm looking for a small bag to hold my cellphone and my camera, but I want to make sure I don't get one that's too small to stay down sufficiently.  I have a DX6490, about the size and weight of a 35mm without lenses.  Also, have y'all had any issues with scratching?  And how is the strap for off-bike carrying?

Danke!

i've barely used it.  did try it out at 90mph just to see what happens.  stays put.  no scratching.  didnt put a whole lot of weight in it (cellphone, camera, shirt)  its really not very big and i didnt like how small it looked on the bike so im selling it.  its ashame because i was so excited to get it in the mail and i havent even cut the tags off.. :x

Hmm, you're selling it?   :)

_I_ look pretty small on the bike, so I can't complain about a bag...

I'll add my opinion.  I got a Manta to replace an old Marsee tank bag.   The magnets are stronger and it feels more secure than the Marsee.  The tank is protected from the magnets by a textured rubbery material that seems to do a good job, no scratches noticed.

About capacity:  I knew ahead of time that it had limited capacity but it does just what I want.  If I need to carry more I have a tailbag.  But today I was out for a long ride and used the Manta to carry a cd player, GPS, cell phone, wallet, water bottle, snack, and small first aid kit.

I give it a  :thumb: .

Matt

I have a silver and black Manta that I love!  It hasn't budged at 85+ and it  holds the following on a regular basis"

Blackberry 7100T - My regular phone
Nextel for work - crappy phone
Dell Axim - fuel and milage tracking
Ipod - Tunes baby!
Motorola V300 - has the auto answer to use with the Audioboss
Motocomm Audioboss - to connect the Ipod and the Motorola to the helmet speakers
Garage door opener
Rain cover
Wallet
Spare batteries for the Audioboss
Security badge for work
Housekeys

And assorted change and other small stuff.

I think it's a perfect bag for short trips and commuting.

I've got the manta bag and use it all the time. Never had a problem  with it coming off. It doesn't carry too much, but I like the small size since I can easily take it with me when I park the bike.

Full cases? :o  Damn...  I gotta wonder how much would fit in my trunk...

Funny thing is...  As big as that damn thing is, my GIANT helmet barely fits.

I need those TOO!  Two saddles...  Trunk...  Giant tank bag...  and a backpack!

I could fit a whole camping trip worth of beer!  Well, as long as it was a short camping trip.

Being broke is the only snag...  Stupid people wanting my money for stuff!

That's ok, I still get by...  I just can't do much...  or buy anything.

Newenough is closing out Blasters:
http://www.newenough.com/joe_rocket_blaster_gloves_page.htm

Saddlebags have their place - I carry groceries and overnight stuff in my F650's - but I've found the tank bag to be a lot nicer for everyday crap.  Given the choice, I'd rather do a tank bag.

Edit - in reference to that other thread, the men's Phoenix gloves look a LOT more substantial (wind-deflection-wise) than the women's.   :P
