Hey. I'm back again. I measured all the valve shims and they all are okay. I still have a loud ticking sound but its only when I rev the engine. At idle you cannot hear anything. When I throttle up and start moving there is a noticeable ticking sound and loss of power. Any ideas on what I should do next??
Thanks
It's difficult to say.
- Shouldn't be the camshaft chain: if it was due to it, you would hear it always.
- Shouldn't be the camshaft knock, it can be heard in a range of rpm, besides if you are revving or not revving
- Shouldn't be a ring, because of the same reasons written.
- Shouldn't be the clutch issue in the gearbox, because of the same reasons written.
- shouldn't be a damaged cam or a cam stem,, because of the same
reasons written
- could be a piston bearing.
- could be a piston crack (see the image next to the message: it comes
from a 2-strokes racing engine. It cracked and made a ticking sound
during 1000Km. Then broke to bits) But this is quite difficult in a 4-strokes.
- could be a hot spot inside a cylinder that What I think is that there's a hot spot inside one of your cylinders that produces preignition. Replace
spark plug, and drop fuel stabilizer to see if it gets better.
- could be one of your ignition coils / CDI is working bad and one of your
cylinders is not firing on time, resunting again in preignition.
(too hot engine in only one side).
Is oil pressure OK? didn't you drive your bike without oil pressure, dind't you? My brother completely ruined a Cagiva engine when the oil pump quit working.
i had the same problem. if you keep driving it eventually it will tick really really really loud even at idle. i over-revved my motor and screwed somethign up and i had the same problem. it started out ticking really loud only when reved and i had no power at all. and i kept riding it and within minits (30 min.) it got progressivly worse to the point that the motor wouldnt rev over 2500 rpm and it eventually turned off.
i bought a new motor off ebay. 220 bucks. bike runs great now.
dont know what to tell you :dunno:
Pull the plugs. Put something in the plug hole, so it touches the top of the piston. Using a 19mm wrench on the ignition rotor-- move the crank back and forth a bit. If the rod bearing is out, you'll feel no movement of the piston until the crank moves beyond the slop.
Or it could be a countershaft bearing, but that would't effect power like a rod bearing.
You should drain the oil and drop the oil pan on the bottom of the motor.
You'll see bearing bits in the pan, if anything is going bad.
Riding the bike will only make matters worse. :(
The ticking sound is the piston smacking the head. :dunno:
counterBallence shaft bearing would, both times when mine went out, i noticed the engine felt like it was dragging abit. maybe i can get by to give it alisten. If it is your CB shaft bearings, then your gonna have to make a choice, rebuild enough to run, or rebuild whole engine while its apart. ive got one engine on the bench right now, runs well enough but CB bearings went out on it.
just got my 40 pilots and 150 mains in, seems to surge alittle when on steady throttle, probly need the second washer under the needles. but seems to work well enough. so order up those and a Pod filter when ever your ready and ill show you how to install them too
Blueknyt yea man anytime you have a chance swing on by. If its needs to be rebuilt I want to do it right. Do you accept beer as payment??
I think I have the same problem as you. If you figure out what's wrong, let me know.

You also have the loss of power?
