Oy...
Was riding 'Lita's GS around town doing errands and I decided to get on the freeway back to work. Got going and the bike lost power and died again. Pulled off and tried to play with the various selects on the petcock but nothing helped. Looked in the tank, it there was at least a gallon sloshing around in the tank.
Finally gave up and disconnected the petcock to carbs line at the fuel filter and pinched off the tank reserve line (must remember to put the tools back in her bike... ). hooked the reserve line directly to the carbs, and it started right up and ran all the way home.
So it is definately that POS vacuum actuated petcock. It seems to only occur when the bike goes to reserve, so I wonder if something is wrong with the reserve circuit or perhaps there isn't enough line pressure to keep the diaphram open???
Well The bike if it is to be street only and you dont want the worries and pains of a pingel or non vaccum petcock you can over bore the stock petcock. Those plastic conical pieces have holes and the holes in the metal of the petcock as well, you can drill them out one size bigger. On my eliminator 1000 I made 2 outlets from the 1 outlet petcock and sent the second outlet to a T and put inlet fittings in the connector between the outer carbs and have 3 supply lines going into it. The thing used to starve for gas before that. Now it pretty much runs like there is no tommorow...and with its shitty handling and brakes there very well may not be...
Cool.

I've done away with my petcock and have plumbed straight to the carbs with no shutoff valve. The day my tank drains out the overflow through the bowls willl be the day I think about getting a petcock. Til then I'm just ignoring it. ;)
werase has his plumbed straight and his needle valve got gunked up not too long ago. He cleaned his carbs but I don't think he put in a shutoff valve! :)
If you run the line straight from the tank to the carbs, what do you do with the vacuum hose? Some on the forum say to plug it, I tried that but the bike didn't run properly, so I ended up putting the frame petcock back on and routing the vacuum back into the stock position.
It connects to a line on the carbs, and it runs fine if you plug it.....make sure you plug the right line.
