Title: Bike shrunk, what gives?
Post by: DarkCyDE on May 28, 2005, 08:13:02 PM
For some really strange reason my bike just shrunk an inch and a half. The forks are in the same place. the travel on them is fine. The back is sitting lower and nothing I can see explains why. I even tightened the setting up two notches and its still sagging to much. I know that its sagging because its almost straight up and down when on the kick stand. Could a spring all of a sudden just die? I have the stock unit I can put in for a while, while I find another but Im just curious what could have taken place. I know my fat ass isnt helping things being 250 lbs So is there a stiffer rear I could use? maybe Gixer 750?

Yo- here is my guess..Maybe your spring is fine but the hydrolic part is stuck and cant go back out all the way? maybe its rusty a bit? wd40.  hope that helped

does ur tail have a passenger seat? i read that you dont carry passengers so why have the seat pad?  it would look cool with a cowl

check yor rear tire presure, use a gauge,  most bike tires have a stiff sidewall and you won't be able to tell the pressure from poking them.

No I checked the pressure. its good. The shock spring is toast. Its bottoming out with very littte more than me hopping on the seat hard. whats a good stiffer spring set up that I could go to.  I just weigh too damn much for this bike.

Yes, I have seen alot of them. I guess my question is which is going to work well with someone that is 6'4" 250 lbs
none of what I have found really covers that, that I have found

well im 6'2" and 230.  I put a Katana 600 shock on.  No probs due to my weight.  I pick one up on ebay for about $20.  Here are a couple I found

A Bandit 1200 shock fits too..(tiny bit of grinding required...). If I ever finish "my" Gs I'll let you know how it rides...

Mystery solve-ed. Shock is fine. friend that knocked my bike over......
seems the reason it wasnt moving freely (I didnt think to look at) was the exhaust that was being held nicely in place by the bolt on the rear brake line.
Of course I didnt figure this out untill I dropped the shock and dog bones. The swingarm didnt drop. I was all like"WTF" then seen the bolt sticking threw the side of my can. Think I will test ride it over to my friends house. muhahahaha.

thanks all!!

sv 650 gives just under 2 inches of extra hieght, not sure what the katana gives in height, but is also more tolerant
