to buy. It looks half decent, but the right side 'pickup coils' are broken.

How hard a fix is it. do i have to take apart the bottom end.. its just that area that needs to be fixed. Does anybody have spares for this ...

not sure which side you mean as right side, sitting on it, or looking at it, its the description on the site that he is not sure eith, if it is the pickup, you have to be carefull as to wether it went down hard or not, that is where the end of the crank is easil damaged, you will have to take the pickup off, and have a look to see if there is any warping of the crank, or if it has snapped the little locater pin off the end of the crank, the pickups are easy enough to do, and pretty much available on ebay

normally it just bends the bolt on the pickup rotor, and maybe the rotor itself can be bent, just depends how bad a drop, mine was like that, but got the whole side caseing of ebay for 35 pound, about 50 dollars i think.

If it was the other side for the generator, then you will have to strip and have a look. Pretty much easy to do though, if you have a manual at hand, if not, i know a link for one on a web site somewhere, just pm me if you want it

Bike's got a lien on it, that's why he's asking $1200

The signal generator and rotor are missing in the pics, along with the cover. Not that easy to come by used as they are very easily damaged when going down on the right side.

Lovely ... and that somehow makes it worth more ??? ... yea the bank that holds the title will buy for 1200 ... I know I bought a nighthawk that was held by the bank on a personal loan from this Idiot ... its was a rust bucket, I wanted parts off it ... I paid $80 ... and he was supposed to mail me the tiltle a few days later ... The bank wanted $1000 for releasing teh title and this idiot didn't ahve it ... I told him to come over and take it (I had pulled the parts off it put it on my other bike and sold it ... and I had trucked it to Nor CA from Southern CA ... ) The idiot didn't respond to my emails asking him for $$ or title ... I was very reasonable ... come take it and we call the whole idea off ... I trucked it, and you lost parts ... even deal ... he didn't reply ... I then parked it in some choice spots around town and in SF, by the hydrant etc and earned some nice $275 tickets ... A week later I had my $80 ...
If it has lein ... I dont believe its worth more ... its worth less ... You either have to go down to the bank with him, get it paid off, and wait the 30 days they'd take to process it all the while paying interest and not having the title, and finally its still in the sellers name, you have to get him to sign off ... Nice way to lose your money, your bike and a fair chance of getting carted off to jail if he decides ... cos having the bike with title in his hand = theft ... Rather - Grand theft auto ...  Simply put ... I'd say I'll need the title ... and you produce it and I'll give you the $$ ...
I have a beauty that the previous owner paid off the lein but never chased the bank/credit union for the title ... and its been 5 years ... OK I dont feel bad ... I only paid $100 for it ... roughly 1/8 th of its fair value ... close enough ... and I bought a parts bike with title for $20 and as soon as I find that title ... I am ...
Cool.

Title: Theft
Post by: The Buddha on May 31, 2005, 08:12:35 PM
Yea see I am still possibly liable for theft ... but I have bill of sale from him to me - so what is that - grand larceny ??? selling something you dont own ?? and of course I dont have any $$ in it ... Possession isn't 9/10th of ownership ... possession is theft ...

Well a month later I bought another nighthawk, with title this time and this is now its donor parts bike ... BTW this was rusted to hell ... only parts I could use were seat and dash ...
Cool.

I never said it made the bike worth more, I said it has a lien on it and that's why he's asking $1200 -- to get out from under the lien.  He's upside-down on the loan for sure, and it's going to take an idiot or someone with too much money on their hands (or maybe both)to bail him out of it.

You can find a running GS for the same price.  Buying a broken bike for $1200 is one thing.  Buying a broken bike with a lien on it is just dumb.  Getting the lien released will be more trouble than it's worth.

Just look some more and buy a running bike.  I paid $1200 for my '92 in perfect running order.
