yea you guessed it, I layed my bike down today. Was making a right turn towards a hill. I went to first and had to give it a little more gas,i didnt realized that i let off the gas a little before i gave it more..should have made it to second...anyway...the sucker stalled on me because i am a noob my self. I look up at the stupid slope wondering how the hell im gonna give the right combo of letting out the clutch and gas at the same time. its way different when you are on a slope. Bleh. i must have stalled about 10 times. The bike is running funny today anyway. so yea.. i stalled it, bike weight shifted to the right and i knew it wanted DOWN. so i layed it down as gently as possible. Thank god there was not a scratch on her. there was fluid on the ground though...i dunno what..
You know how in the MSF, they teach you to treat other bikers like family? well this one random dude came up to me and asked if i needed any help. Sure was nice of him. he even helped me get my bike up that slope. he also noticed the bike was acting a bit funny. I gotta figure it out i guess. Anyway all in all i learned that I need a hell of a lot more practice getting well aquainted with the friction zone. Practice and dont get down on your self.Baby steps. And believe that your fellow riders are out and willing to help you and a time of need. This event reassured me. Be safe out there.
Left foot down, right on rear brake, more gas than you think you need, ride the CRAP out of the clutch, when it starts to die let off slowly on the rear brake... :)
It's a wet clutch... So, no real worries about burning it.
Works for me :thumb:
ah...that sucks
maybe ride it up the slope in first gear (slowly) till you get used shifting in tight situation?
i would forget about the rear brake...pull the clutch in half way or till it engages slightly and give lot of gas. basically you give plenty of gas and control the transfer of the power to the wheels with the clutch. you can practice this on a flat land.
I was talking about starting on a hill... I guess I forgot about the first part of the post :(
Hey thanks guys. both replies were helpful. ill keep that in mind.

I was repeating this to myself while I was test-riding an EX500 at a private seller's house last week -- his driveway was a huge hill with the garage at the bottom, and I was nervous as hell that I'd stall it at least 5 times trying to get up. Ordinarily I wouldn't care, but when your wife, the seller, and the seller's father, mother, and girlfriend are all watching you on the bike (and you're at least 10 years older than the kid selling the bike) it makes for sweaty palms.
The fluid you mention is probably just gas out of the carbs. The bike acting funny is a result, but only temporary unless a float got stuck.
