You can do what you've suggested with a "Y" or a Tee.  But, when the float valves fail...you'll have fuel in your oil.  Last time I checked, fuel didn't lubricate as well as oil.

My bike runs with a single fuel line from the tank. It attaches to the reserve and the other connection is capped. I have a quick disconnect (with check valve) between the tank and carbs, so I shut the fuel off there. Even when left connected I have not had a problem. Someday I will get a Pingle to make shutting it off easier.

If I get a Pingel Petcock with reserve and run straight to the carbs, do I still need a quick disconnect?  Or just the Pingel?  Sorry if this seems simple, but I haven't taken off my tank yet.

The disconnect is not needed but makes removing the tank a snap. Less messy too.

Is there a metal version, or just plastic?

I'm not sure that you'd want metal.  :dunno:   But I'll bet the "plastic" ones are made from some tough stuff:1/4" Quick Disconnet Coupling (http://www.chaparral-racing.com/Chaparral/productr.asp?pf%5Fid=306%2D1229&gift=False&HSLB=False&mscssid=6610B175B0824DFA97E8F48EEAC6CF56)

5/16" Quick Disconnet Coupling (http://www.chaparral-racing.com/Chaparral/productr.asp?pf%5Fid=306%2D1230&gift=False&HSLB=False&mscssid=6610B175B0824DFA97E8F48EEAC6CF56)[/list:u]Kinda pricey though.  Cheaper source, anyone?

I have only seen them in plastic. I think $15 is pretty reasonable. The only problem I have is the o-ring craps out at times but then I disconnect it more times than most.

Well, after a new tank, a pingel petcock and fuel filter, braided lines, jet kit, and lunchbox, what's another 15 bucks?  As long as it won't get brittle and break.  I'm not being a smart ass, I'm serious.  I'd rather pay another 15 to do things right.  I'm accumulating the stuff I need to do it.

Thanks for the link Kerry.  I believe we need 1/4 inch, correct?

Not brittle but the o-ring has got pinched before. 1/4" is fine but you may be able to sqeeze the line over a 5/16".

That's kinda up to you, although I would use whatever dgyver is using.

The stock fuel hose has a nominal inner diameter of 7mm.

1/4" = 6.35mm so it will fit a little looser.

5/16" = 7.94mm so it will fit a little tighter.

You're right.  I was thinking of fuel line, which I was advised to get 1/4".

Pingel (//www.pingelonline.com) has the quick disconnects listed for $7.75 on their website. Not sure if that has the check valve in it.
