I finally found the pants that I was looking for (Teknic Monsoon Overpants) and after trying them on, I was not impressed by how they fit me for a $200 pair of pants. They are also gore-tex lined, so they won't be the coolest (temperature) pair of pants out there.
The store also had a pair of Cortec Decker (http://www.tourmaster.com/product.html?sku=84-183) leather pants for ~$200. They have armor and zippers up the side, so they could be used as overpants. I realize that they would offer better protection but I am a little worried about cooking myself whenever summer decides to show up.
I am thinking about getting the leather pants and repairing my current pants (FirstGear HT Air overpants) for when its really warm out. I crashed last fall and there is a hole in the back but other than that, they are in pretty good shape.

Has anyone repaired mesh/textile gear before? If so, how did you do it?
Also, for those of you who wear leathers on the street all year: how warm does it get where you ride and what is the traffic usually like?

I will ride in any temp in full leathers, 90-95f on the street is about the max so far. I try to avoid traffic but when I do get stuck, it gets hot! As long as air moves, I am fine.
take it to an alteration or tailor shop...they'll patch it up for you.
Have you contacted FirstGear to see if they do repairs? I would think there is an email contact on their website like Fieldsheer.
How about taking the pants to a leather shop and having them stitch a patch of leather over the compromised area?
Leather "breathes", but maybe not enough to cool you off, but it will help keep you from dehydrating on long trips.
