Title: Front sprocket spline differences?
Post by: DarkCyDE on June 01, 2005, 03:44:29 PM
I order a 15t that just came in today. I went to put in on and found that it had wider splines then the stock . what are the year differences. This is an 89 and I order one for an 89 but its not even close.  JT Sprockets #JTF565.15 If that is of any help.

thanks,
Mike

After '94, Suzuki went to the shouldered sprocket. You can still get the regular sprockets. Someone down the line musta transposed the numbers.

Right on, then they just got the wrong sproket all together. Will yell at them about it.

Thanks,

I could understand a shoulder / no shoulder problem, but a "wider spline"?  :o

The manufacturer part number JTF565.15 matches up with the Dennis Kirk number 80-993-15 that is listed on my Chains & Sprockets page.  I'll have to double-check the printed DK catalog when I get home and see if I can figure out what went wrong.  Hopefully it was "just"    a mis-shipment.

Was that number stamped into the sprocket itself?  Or was it printed on a wrapper or an accompanying piece of paper?

It was on the sprocket as well. They said at the bike shop they they have had that problem before with JT Sprockets. Even while I was in there, a guy came in with the same kind of problem with the splines not matching for his Yamaha. The ordered me one from Sprocket Specialist. I have heard other people having luck with them for the GS so all should be good this time. Only bummer is that its going to rain threw next week and I wont be able to enjoy having nice new sprockets to go with my new chain until much later now. Oh well. I guess I can use this time to start planning out my new paint scheme. I m thinking about that new color I have seen on newer trucks. its kind of a Orangish copper color. Maybe gun metal grey for the frame.  donno, will chew on it with my down time.

Pardon my slowness....  I happen to have a picture of the 16-tooth JT Sprockets that's been on my '99 for 2 or 3 years now:

I bet if you replaced the "-16" with "-15" you'd have the right part number ... for a post-'93/'94 bike, that is.    But I guarantee that the spline would fit at least.

Thanks for the info and the part number. I will hope that the one from Sprocket specialist works. If not that will get me in the right direction.

thanks,

Mike
