AKA Squeezing between traffic.
OK... I know it's dangerous and it's illegal in WA state...
I just want to know:
Do you do it?
How often?
On the freeway or just surface roads?
How much faster than traffic do you go?[/list:u]
yes i do it. Not that offten though. Usually when there is a slow person infront of me and wont move.
Almost always on the freeway, but I will do it werever it is necessary.
Usually min 10mph faster, and wide open.
There is legislation in the works in washington to make "lane sharing" legal.
Call your congressman, and let them know you want it!
I do it all the time. Have to do it. Otherwise it adds 20-30 minutes to my commute time. I'll do it on the NYS Thruway also if the traffic is below 30 mph. GS is perfect for this.
lemme say its not my favorite thing to do... im fairly getting better as a GS rider but living here in SoCal its necessary sometimes to do it
...its pride too sometimes... coz other bike here do it all the time
..i stay on second gear while splitting to keep the power and the exhaust screamin but if i see some bike approaching fast..i let them pass and follow their line (loud cruiser exhaust and cop bikes are your friends while doing this)
..i feel that the line between the carpool lane and fast lane are freakin slippery and deflectors BUSTS my nuts (poor nuts   )... [OMG pls no custom title  ]
...i split too on surface streets if the line in the light is long or im kinda in a hurry  ...but i mostly restrain myself on doing this if traffic is not bad
...my suggestion in doing this....look 4 to 5 cars up...cover the brake..expect the worse..and wave at cars that moves to give you some space
I do it but I live in Port Angeles. If I didnt, I would never get anywhere. no its not the smartest thing in the world to do but I just refuse to go 15 under the speed limit cuz granny cant get her head outta her ass. that and lanes are wide here (most of the time with a pull off lane on the 101) you know, the lane those slow ass F@#%S are spose to use when there are 5 cars waiting behind them.
No Im not bitter :x
I only do it when a car is stopped or moving very slowly. Often to make a turn when they're blocking the way. I just plain don't trust cars. A friend of mine went to SoCal on a business trip, and said he saw several accidents with dead bikers in just a short trip out, most of them lanesplitting.
I HOV to get away from the cars. If the traffic is thick even on HOV, I'll find side streets.
Edit - actually, on 520, I'll use the wide bits where the merge lane comes down to the HOV lane to go around people who are creeping along in the HOV lane (single or dual occupant) with their left turn signal on. :x
