Nah, I'm flattered really.  That I've made such an impression to rate a place in a poll brings tears to my eyes.  Tears of joy.

At least you READ what I said and maybe it opened your eyes a bit.  You are taught to believe a lot that is simply not correct.  It's GOOD to hear opposing views.  

I admire/respect the ones who are willing to stand up for what they believe.  I don't admire lackeys who just agree because it's the popular view.  I admire those who can cite case studies, provide raw numbers, anything substantial to support their points.  Unfortunately they have all been woefully lacking.  I haven't been beaten yet.

You all have the option of reading what I say or not.  I've never told an untruth, never.  I may get a fact or two wrong (and I admit it) but basically it's all true.  Unpopular maybe but true nonetheless.

You may think I'm full of crap, a whacko, boorish, whatever.

the word "porn" has been overused.  much of what people label as "porn" is not even close to pornography. for example, this wallpaper was heckled as "porn!" by many people, when it couldn't be further from the truth. (this picture has half a buttock, but i bet even Kerry wouldn't be offended).

now, as far as porn being degrading to women? considering that most of the true pornography -- a multibillion $ business -- is targeted at men, i'm not so sure who exactly is being degraded.

There are bound to be things I find offensive that others think are OK, and vice versa.  I think the important thing as far as a site/forum like this is concerned is to avoid deliberately offending other members, apologise if you do inadvertently offend, and try not to do it again.  If you are offended by something someone has posted, just say so.  Don't get in a twist about it.  A little mutual respect goes a long way.  Labelling potentially offensive content is a good idea.
I think the main reason many people find joerocker's posts "offensive" is that the tone is often one of deliberately trying to offend, rather than simply trying to stimulate thought and discussion.
And Joe, in response to your above post re previous threads, it is fairly apparent to me that you are impervious to any evidence, no matter how reliable, that is contrary to your opinion.  We have all seen it in your replies.  The source is unreliable or the methodology suspect or it's taken out of context or one of a dozen different reasons to dismiss the argument so that you can contiue to believe your position.  That's not how you persuade people, Joe.  Or isn't that your intention?

Michael, and how are you any different?  You deny MY evidence no matter the source.  Even if it has just been published in a well respected magazine like Scientific American!  You deny CDC numbers, you deny Papers published in Science magazine.  If my idea is opposite yours, you fight it tooth and nail with nothing more than hearsay.

As for "offensive" what is offensive really?  EVERYONE has their own idea and threshold for what THEY find offensive.  Personally I don't find ANYTHING offensive.  You could say anything here and I wouldn't be offended.  I've been personally attacked and abused more than anyone here.  I'm still here because I'm a survivor.  I fight back instead of cowering and hiding under the "discrimination" or "offensive" safety blanket.  I may think your wrong, have a STRANGE sense of humor, whatever, but offensive?  Why would anyone be offended by anything?  It's just some words on a screen, someone elese ideas.  Why would you be offended by any picture?  It's just a picture.  Look briefly and then say "wow, sick" and forget it.  Don't look again.  I agree with a disclaimer in the title so the squeemish can avoid it entirely.  But guess what, they'll most likely look anyway.  It's human nature.  I do agree that true "hate speech" is uncalledfor but it too shouldn't be censored.  Nothing should be censored unless it's critical to the operation of a nation or would put the public in DIRECT danger.

As for "porn" or "boobs" pictures, men LIKE, no, they LOVE to look at naked women.  Why?  Because a man wants ALL the women in the world at least once.  OK, not the really ugly or fat ones.  A man is a sex machine.  ALL we want to do is copulate with as many different women as possible.  THAT is why men ALWAYS want to look at naked women.  Look at star athletes, performers, any man with power, celebrity, money.  They ALL have been with countless women whether they admit it or not.  Who was it, "Magic Johnson" who admitted he had been with over 10,000 women?  All men would do that if they could.  Marriage is the booby prize.  You get just one, BUT, you get her any time.  So in the end it's an OK compromise.  Sorry ladies, we're just plain different than you are.  But I've been over that time and time again.  And I don't want this post deleted.

As for my posts.  Sure I admit I'm cocky sometimes.  That's what happens when you're smarter than most, athletic, talented, and used to being a winner.  Growing up I learned fast, was picked first in sports, was the class artist, played music (joerocker, get it? I have a one-man does it all CD like Mike Oldfield did but he's better), etc.  I'm used to being at the top.  I'm smart enough to have retired at 42 because I didn't want to spent my whole life working, getting up every day at 6am, getting home at 5pm, dealing with traffic, the politics of business, JUST to make money.  How?  By not being a follower.  If you do as everyone else does you'll be poor (in debt) and working until you're 80.  I DO have something to tell you that you probably are not aware of or haven't thought of in the same way I'm explaining it to you.  Like it or not, we are all being manipulated by marketers who are VERY VERY good at "directing" your behavior, your values, your thoughts, about just about everything.  EVERY major group has their marketers.  Consume, accept, relax, is the their mantra.  When I have to explain something in a different way for the 5th time I begin to lose my patience and yes, I talk down to you.  I know I shouldn't but I get caught up in the heat of "battle".

So, am I still winning?

About the only things I agree with you on are that people get buggy when they live in close proximity to each other, eg. in the city, and that a lot of people read material or listen to someone and take the information at face value. I also see you read the news.  China WILL take over the world if things don't collapse first from the depletion of oil.  China is 1/5 the worlds population.  They can have a 1 BILLION man army if they want.  They're growing in manufacturing just as the U.S. did before IT became a world leader.  When everyone depends on you to make their things, you have REAL power.  Look around in WalMart, EVERYTHING is made in China.  The U.S. is losing jobs left and right, manufacturing is leaving in a flood.  Most of whats left is "McJobs".  The war in Iraq and Afghanastan was ONLY to get a stronghold in the middle east to protect the oil fields.  What do we care about their civil liberties, about what we care for the Africans, millions killed every year.  They just don't have anything we need.  China may just decide to take the mideast oil fields away some day.  I know Iran wants the oil too.

I'm not aware that I have dismissed anything you have presented just out of hand, based on "nothing more than hearsay".  And I don't care where the article is published- if it's good science it can stand, if it's not it should fall.  As part of my training I have had specific teaching in how to critically appraise scientific literature- was the study properly carried out using validated scientific methods, was the study that was performed able to answer the question raised, in other words, can this data be relied on to provide a sound basis for further research and clinical decisions.  I have been forced to realise that a respected name such as the New England Journal of Medicine,  Nature, Science, or Scientific American does not guarantee that every article published is above reproach.
The point I was making is that in the past you have presented articles from the journals you mentioned, among others, and would not believe they could be unsound, despite any evidence to show it, and have systematically ignored any evidence presented by others, no matter how much evidence there is to show that they are valid.
It seems that you believe you are the only one capable of being right.  You want others to accept every word that comes out of your mouth as gospel truth, and that even if (heaven forbid) others are right, you are more right.  Your self-published curriculum vitae in another post is certainly impressive, but I don't understand why this makes you think you have the right to be so uncharitable to us lesser mortals.
Hereafter, I intend to follow the advice of the old Arabic proverb, which says in part, "He who knows not, and knows not that he knows not, is a fool- shun him".

I'd say your quote applies more to the general populace than to me.  Most of you have been bushwacked by those who would control you.  You don't think you're being "led" in certain directions by the government, corporations, groups with an agenda?

I agree 100% with you as it pertains to testing.  BUT, I don't indescriminately throw out evidence simply because I don't agree.  I've been surprised numerous times when confronted with new evidence and I DO change my beliefs when appropriate.  Does being published in a leading scientific journal mean it's ALWAYS accurate?  NO.  BUT, it's much better than getting your facts from "Bobs" or some political group's web site.  Many of the "facts" used against me were from VERY questionable sources.

When I tell you what I think and what I believe the first time I'm simply explaining my view.  I believe I do it in a fairly neutral, maybe a slight "teachie" (a word?) tone.  It is when I am questioned (usually in an attack) that I begin to get my "attitude".  You're right, I do act condescending sometimes.  I should work on that.

Am I Mr. Wizard?  Do I know it ALL?  NO.  I've said that many times.  BUT, there are some things that I do feel very strongly that I do have the TRUE facts and not the propaganda that is commonly cited.

Why can't we just read what each other says and comment on the actual ideas and not the person.  Most replies are simple character attacks and have no substance.  MAYBE after a few of those from the same people over and over, I don't have ANY patience with them?

"Please, please hurry," Kuntz said.

Investigators said Preston was living temporarily with a cousin two streets away. He was looking for work, having just arrived from Michigan. Investigators said it should have been obvious that someone was home. They're still wondering if his intentions were burglary or worse.

"He's the only one that knows, and he's deceased," said a spokesman for the Brevard County Sheriff's Department.

Neighbors are unanimous in their support for the homeowner.

"I guess when you're scared and that's your reaction, is to defend yourself, is what you do, especially in your own home," said neighbor Gail Fischer.

Investigators said Preston had a record of property crimes and domestic violence in Michigan.

Florida recently passed a law that gives citizens the same right to self-defense on the streets as was exercised by Kuntz in her home.

My favorite line is from the Sherriff: "She did a great job"  In Mass the quote would have read: "She's being held without bail on 1st degree murder charges" -I'm totally serious.

A few years ago a man was improsoned here for doing what the unfortunatley-named Mrs Kuntz did. It sparked such public outrage that the law, or interpretation of the law has subtely changed, these days if you shot a burgular (with a legally held weapon) you would probably have Tony Blair round to congratulate you, and who's arguing.

I'm a FIRM believer in protecting your person AND your property.  I have NO love for violent criminals or thieves.  Steal my car, I want your head.  Rob my house, same punishment.  Mug me for my money, slow and painful demise.  95% of crime is committed by 5% of the population.  We don't need that 5% living anywhere.  Prison should be for the juvenile offenders, hopefully we can set them straight as they mature.  Commit those crimes as a responsible adult and BANG.  The life of those people isn't worth a thing.  BTW, most crime IS drug related.  Stealing to buy drugs.  That is a main reason drugs are illegal.  People will do ANYTHING for that fix.

I'm not a curmudgeon but I do have some beliefs on right and wrong that I stubbornly hold on to.  I'd say I'm a FIRM believer in the golden rule and I believe in self sufficientcy and survival of the fittest.  Leave me and mine alone and I'll do the same for you.  The only taxes we should pay is for PUBLIC projects (roads, police, military, etc.) NOT for personal long term help.  UNLESS it's due to a REAL disability.  Not this crap that passes for a disability now.  If you REALLY need TEMPORARY help fine.  But you WILL take ANY job offered to you.

First, Cal my tomatoes are doing well although I am freaking out over weevils (I have 3 different types that plague me) and I have started using some "kill soap" from the garden centre to keep them at bay. My cowhorn peppers are coming along fine and I bought them thinking they were Thai peppers (labeled incorrectly). They are very mild and not hot at all. Here in South Louisiana we LOVE spicey and HOT. If you ever come to New Orleans or Baton Rouge you MUST give me a buzz and come over and eat. We'll think of something to cook. You will always have free food and a free place to sleep here. No charge. Ever. Please let me know in advance when you will be arriving.

John- to answer your question... it all depends!  For the most part not much offends me.  I can make a nasty/offensive comment as fast as any man.  Check with the guys I have worked with.   :lol:   They start out surprised then they just enjoy it!  But taking it from that side most of the comments made either by me or my friends are not serious.  They are comments made for a laugh.  None of us do it to degrade others.   Ok there was one we tried to degrade on a regular basis, but it was based only on him and not his race, gender or religious beliefs.  He annoyed me and I truly enjoyed annoying him.   :lol:

I have to find the time for a couple of biggish European trips plus a trip to Oz, It's no good me going "down under" whilst I'm still gainfully employed as I would like an absolute minimum six weeks, more like six months if I can organise things at home. I have long harboured an ambition to cross the US from West to East and fly home from Boston or NY. "Hollywood" America, and "Disney" Americal does nothing for me but I would love to see "real" America. My experience of "The Americas" is confined to Newfoundland, Carribean Islands and one night in Bangor Maine (Plane breakdown) which is not much.

Hey Cal !!! Let me think.........let me see...........ok looks like Mr. Kerry got you a price so let me tell you my experience with those "stopping points on the "Mighty Mississippi" River. St. Louis. I would assume that is where you would "get onboard". Have never been there and would not venture too far from the boat. Has a few nice landmarks. Memphis......
has some great barbeque and blues on Beale St.. "Memphis in May" is supposed to be a grand party for barbeque but I am a bit confused at to why one "has to be a member" of a "club" to eat any of the food cooked on the competetion grounds (guess for health dept. reasons). Spent many a weekend of my youth at Overton Square but that was 30 years ago. Have heard it has changed.......at lot.........and not for the good. Watch your path and kinda stick around safe areas. Greenville..........ahhhhh...
I am a "tiny bit" familiar with the area. That is in the Mississippi Delta. I spent 27 years of my life in the Delta before I escaped in '81. Greenville is on the river (of course) and has Gambling/gaming there. Not much else to do there. Population MAY be 40,000 due only to the Casino. Used to spend a bit of time at One Block East bar there. It was better than a 50 mile ride for me but it was great to get away. Hell I even rode my RD350 there a few times! Damn that was a long time ago. A great place to eat if it still exists is Doe's Steak House. Good aged beef and I do mean aged and tender. You have to realize that this is "Cotton Country". White Gold.
Now many Catfish and crawfish (crayfish) farms are springing up taking the place of the old revered cotton. Now.........Baton Rouge.........heard last week the "Metro Area" is at 603,000. In town population of about 1/4 million. Different times of the year have different festivals. Here in Louisiana it seems like there is always a festival of some sorts. You can gamble till your hearts content. Has some pretty interesting sights. Fairly safe in most areas. Great brunch at the Casino Rouge on Sundays. I work in Baton Rouge. Well I "report" there and then go to wherever. New Orleans........what can ya say? Black leather and vaseline baby! The French Quarter is crawling in decadence. If you got the jack, you can get the crack (ANY kind of crack--hahahahhahha). It is truly Sodom and Gomorrah but stay on the tourist paths in New Orleans and you'll probably be ok. I go down with Wifey at times to look at the old antiques and French architecture. Food is good. Well........a LOT of South Louisiana food is good. You can gamble at Harrah's if you like and Jackson's Brewery is a good place to walkabout just as is the Old French Market.
My wife and I have always wanted to make that ride from St. Louis to New Orleans but have never had quite enough vacation days. We are just gonna have to FORCE that issue one year! I will give you any and all help I can.      Wilson

OH I FORGOT NATCHEZ!!! A nice place. Old time Mississippi charm. Quiet. Eat "Under the Hill" (a hangout of Jim Bowie's), it is actually kinda under a bluff and a couple of nice places to eat there. "The Post Resturant" is nice downtown and "Fat Mamma's" (also downtown) has some good hot tamales if you are into those! We can go to Ralph and Kacoo's off of Bluebonnet Ave. in Baton Rouge and get you some nice blackened alligator with hollandaise with a nice crisp green salade and hot buttered garlic bread. My daughter and I LOVE IT. It will melt in your mouth and oh so spicy. Wilson

p.s if you have du l'argent left when you get to Natchez, you can gamble there too!!!!
