500 miles on my first bike, a 2001 GS 500 of course!!!
The other day after my first 200 mile ride, the light that illuminates the speed-o-meter stopped working. This is no problem during the day of course, but leaves some room for curiousity at night. Does anyone know how to fix this? I haven't picked up the fix-it-yourself manual, and I don't know where the circuit box is? Any ideas???

Welcome, and good luck!
For a bit of overkill, see the Paging Mr. Clymer!... (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=12177.0) thread.
For a quicker answer, skip directly to the Speedo/Tach light replacement (http://pantablo500.tripod.com/id35.html) page on pantablo's website.
Just did this myself yesterday, piss easy. I should've taken pictures :oops:
Just;
- Undo and detatch the speedo cable,
- Undo the bolts on the back of the speedo, being careful to make sure you don't lose the washer or the rubber grommit,
- Get a small ended philips head screwdriver, remove the trip reset stalk, being sure not to lose the small screw,
- now lift out the speedo carefully and slowly, there's still a wire connected to it,
- Pull out said wires carefully, use your fingernails to get under the rubber part touching the speedo cluster, don't pull the wires,
- attached to those wires is the light globe,
- Replace globe with a working one (12V, 3.4W).
- now work backwards putting it all back together in reverse order.
I couldn't get a 3.4W globe so I replaced both guages lights with 3W ones.

is piss easy easier than doo doo easy?
haha, Aussie slang lost on yet another foreigner :lol:
