Title: New windscreen for 2004 GS500F
Post by: Teecegirl on June 05, 2005, 11:05:52 AM
Does anyone know of a manufacturer where I can get a new windscreen?  Nothing is wrong with the current one, I just want one in a "smoke" color.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Good question.  I have seen someone with a dark one on an "F" although not sure if it was dyed, painted, or what.

Look for a "Lockhart Phillips" or "Zero Gravity" maybe they have one.

They have these film covers that can go over your current windscreen, changing it's color rather slightly or depending on the intensity you chose. If I wasn't so lazy i'd find the link, but they're on ebay somewhere for dirt cheap.

Thanks Jeff, but I actually just went ahead and bought one from the exoticsportbike website.  I'm going to try the "sport touring" one (because the wind has been kicking my butt).  I'll post on here if it feels any different than the stock screen, maybe post a pic so everyone can see what it looks like.  I also ordered a Laminar Lip.  I hope it all doesn't look insanely dorky.     I may go back to stock if so, but figured I'd try it.  I'm tired of fighting the wind.

GS is open to mods and configurations. I'm sure it will look very cool once installed. Why not post a pic?

Kerry posted an FAQ on it a while ago. Check it out... Real easy. Of course, the image has to be somewhere on the internet already... Like bikepics.com for example.

Is it the Zero Gravity Sport Touring one at the bottom of this page? http://www.exoticsportbike.com/gs_500f_(04-05).htm

Add me to the curious-for-pics list.  I'd love to see what it looks like.  I can host the pix for you if need be.

Yes!  That's it.  I have a little bit of bad news, though.  The company said that it is currently "in production," and I won't be able to order it for another four weeks.  So ... I have to wait until early July to order.  I will definitely post before and after pics, though.  I hope it helps ... I'm a new rider and I know that that's part of my problem, but I'm tired of getting pushed within the lane.

Would the lockhart Phillips dark smoke look like the zero gravity dark smoke?

I used "plastic dye" paint bought at the local Autozone. Many colors available.

Never ordered from them, but I did search... :)

Bought at a local cycle repair shop. Dennis Kirk, Chaparral, and others sell the same ones for $9.99.

I made my order on 6/29/05 through Exotic. They never sent me any confirmation or charged me, so I called them and asked them what was up (back in June), They said the part was not released yet, so I was like duh why is it on your site...

Anyways, I called Zero Gravity and asked when it would be available. I want to buy it! They said it was in the "testing phase" or some crap, and they put me on a "notify list" when the product becomes availabe....that was back in late June. It is now late August, and I haven't heard anything.

Has anyone else been able to buy one yet? Did they just not put me on the notify list or am I just too damn impatient?    :dunno:

I would not mind having a smoked or blue colored one.  I'll wait until I see some on here get them to see if I like them.

I thought about trying some of that spray on window tint on the inside of mine.

Plastic Dye... that's a damn good idea.  You definitly don't look through a GS500 shield, that's for sure.

I have before.....I went to a family get together and put my helmet in my wifes car so the kids wouldn't play with it.  She left before I did and I forgot to get the helmet.  Well it was dark, all I had was my Oakley sunglasses, and I was not leaving my bike there all night.  Here I am hugging the tank looking over my sunglasses through the little windscreen.  It was about a 20 mile trip.

i did the same thing as tdan, just masked off the outside and sprayed the inside black, clear coated a few times to make sure it wouldn't scratch off.
