Looks like there a big dent on the side of the gas tank. Is that fixable and if so how much would that cost?
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Renato
sounds good to me, i paid more than twice that for my 96 with 5300 miles on it... but it was perfect

Yes, that is a great deal for a gs with less than 10k on it. Okay, it has a dent in the tank... but at that price you can pick up another tank eventually and still come out ahead (I wouldn't bother-I'd either leave it or bondo it and repaint if it is rusty). Very hard to find a good deal on a gs in the bay area... I'd snatch that up right away.
Looks good for $1K . I'd have him start it cold in front of you, let it warm-up, and maybe take a short ride just to make sure everything is working.
Perhaps the dent in the tank has something to do with the original owners passing away.. :o
I paid $1900 for my 96..
Yea, I got ripped off big time..
Especially since it didnt run and I have had to put $200 into it plus I've been without it for 2 months now..
You did good to come here and ask first..
I wish I had..
Don't buy an apple off the guy who calls himself "pixelmonkey"...
make sure you check everything first...dent in the tank means it's been down..
Also make sure to ask the guy to not start the bike the day you will come to check it out. A lot of sellers prewarm the engine.
remember...tires will cost about 200bucks, that usually something you can throw out there to knock off a few bucks.
Here's his response.
"money talks, I would advise you to drive by 4671 LAs Positas Rd, Livermore 94555 today , and drop off $1,000, I'll fix the tire and ride it to you ASAP. The bike is at my work. I could fix it here in Livermore right now. Title still at home though. Let me know."
I have yet to see the bike yet. I don't have my license yet and I was going to have a friend drive it home for me.
Ancy Ancy Ancy....Price is too good to be true though.
ARggghhhh....
Decision Decision Decision
dude..that's so shady
price is NOT too good to be true...
go check out the bike, take a good look at it. It looks really good to you right now because you are desperate to get a bike. If it still looks good, go for it.
Good luck,
Jonah
Well
He hasn't responded as of yet. We'll have to wait til later this afternoon. I'm going to bring a friend to take a look at the bike if it's still available.
Yeah, you can smell the distinct scent of DESPERATION huh?
Just want to ride man, just want to ride....
Mint condition for 1K...Guess you lucked out huh?
If you have a friend with a Moto-endorsement that's willing to ride it home for you, then do that...
If not, borrow someone's truck...
Or walk it home.
Don't hand ANYONE money without them handing you something in return... Ever... You might just end up with no money AND no bike.

I don't even want to tell what I paid...
The seller's response is shady. Wait for your friend to go look at it. If the engine is warm when you get there...or, if the bike is not there, it wasn't meant to be.
The posting has been deleted. :(
Well,
After 2-3 emails, I've come to the conclusion that the listing was too good to be true. He has not responded and I'm not that desperate either. Gives me more time to look and save up.
Definitely want a GS. Listing has already been deleted so I figure he's sold it to someone else. At least let me know.
As Napoleon would say.....
Freakin Idiot!!!!
Thanks for your opinions though.

The pricing depends on your area and how badly you want to ride. I bought a '96 GS500 with 6300 miles on it in my area for $2,000 last year, probably overpaid by a couple hundred. It ran perfectly, but had some cosmetic damage to it. But I don't regret it, because I didn't see another beginner bike for sale for several months, and I'd rather be riding than worrying over how much I spent. It was still way cheaper than buying a new one.
