Title: Need to buy a mesh jacket
Post by: roma258 on June 07, 2005, 08:05:40 AM
This is my first season riding, and I've quickly learned how necessary a mesh jacket is if I want to ride during the summer. I've been looking for one on the cheap, but none of last year's models have removable lining. Has anyone found a mesh jacket with removable lining (for those cooler mornings) that's under $100?

Joe Rocket Phoenix was just a little over $100.  The Rio was under, but the Phoenix is a better-made jacket.

I bought last years Icon Timex Jacket. Its amazing for summer!  It was $350 reg, then went to $245, then $199, and Inglis had a clearance sale on the weekend, and it was on for $99.  Remember all this is in Canadian $$.  Good Luck! :thumb:

Check out the AGVSPORT AirTex.  It has removable liner, looks nice, and is under $100.

Cheers,

Fieldsheer makes good stuff.  Brockton Cycle is closing them out, check there for some great bargains.  I like the Mach 2 - it has CE armor in the shoulder, elbows, and back.  It's mesh, but reinforced with leather in the impact areas, and comes with a liner.  All for $110 (it used to be $175).

I'm not sure what model it is but the manucaturer in Bohn.  DON'T buy it!  Maybe I'm built like Quazimoto, but the shoulder pads are in a weird place (that's odd I thought shoulderpads went on your shoulders), kinda the front upper arm/shoulder, but definately not in a comfortable place, like on TOP of my shoulders.  Wow, that was a long sentence.  I took out the shoulderpads, and now it fits pretty well, but I have no shoulderpads.  I figure forearm and back protection is better than dying of the dehydration or no protection at all.

Look for jackets on ebay.  I got a $200 Icon TiMax Mesh Jacket (with removable fleece liner) for $115 on ebay.  A very comfortable jacket, worth every penny.   :)

I have nothing but praise for Newenough.com.

I purchased http://www.newenough.com/joe_rocket_santa_fe_jacket_page.htm this from them and absolutely love it.  Mesh in the front and lower back (I think), but perforated leather on the shoulders, sleeves and top of the back.  It looks more "professional" than the Phoenix, IMHO.  Great buy for $70.

Now this one doesn't come with a removable lining, but it does have the zippers for one.  So you can buy one if you want to wear it in cooler weather.

It also have a regular JR Phoenix jacket, but I like this one a whole lot more.

Regarding the Phoenix 3.0

The back foam armour in JR Phoenix is hard to remove (I wear a back protector all the time).  You have to fold it to get it out of the pocket and be careful not to tear the sides of the Velcro pocket :x.  Not an exercise that you want to perform on a daily basis.

Also, try the jacket on both with and without the liner.  The size may feel quit different whether the liner is in or not, especially when you are between sizes.  Beware! It's the shadow of the mountain :D

My 0.02 CAD.

I actually throw a wind breaker over mine for the cool mornings.  OK I use my rain jacket... then I just stuff that in my tank bag for the ride home.  I have a liner for mine but I still got chilly cause the wind went right thru it.  Its always good to have a rain jacket with ya so it works out well.
How convenient!
