Title: They left me for dead!
Post by: CanadianGS on June 07, 2005, 10:21:31 AM
Ok!  Now that i have cooled down a bit, i can tell my story.  I was riding the other night with this group of guys that are supposed to be an excellent group for beginners to ride with.  :bs:  My ex was there on some guy's bike, which is fine even tho she was saying she wanted to get back together.  :dunno:  So we went for a ride out on these windy roads, its 10:30pm, and pitch black.  No street lights, nothin!  First mistake was doing all this, to talk to the ex, to see if things were different :nono: .  2nd mistake was when they put me at the back and i still kept riding.  I'm very new to riding, and considering i didn't know the road, u'd think i would be in the middle, but i guess not.  Next they all ride very fast 600+cc supersports.  So ya they left me in their dust :nana: .  I got stuck behind cars, red lights, and just plain road conditions.  I hit a dead racoon (it was huge) :o at 120km/h, which wasn't fun, and then after 2 windy bends in the dark, and not even knowing where i was, i turned around and went home.  Not one other rider waited, turned around to see if i was ok, nothin.  To make things even worse, my ex didn't even call to see if i made it home safely! :x   On the way home, i passed the cops that saw us flying by at excess speeds, but this time i was alone.  Pleased to say they didn't do anything.  Next some girl decides to change lanes without looking, and pretty much pushed me into oncoming traffic.  Nevertheless, i made it home safely, and would like to thank u all for it. :thumb:   An earlier post of mine was asking how can i keep up, and with all ur advice on just riding my ride, and not trying to keep up, I turned around.  Thanks to all for the advice, i probly wouldn't be able to type this right now if i hadn't listened.  And sorry to make u all read this  but i had to get it off my chest, and say thanks!

With friends like those, who needs enemas?

Ja, trying to keep up on an unfamiliar road at night on a new-to-you bike with limited absolute biking time under your belt - call it a night while the rubber's still on the road.  And find another riding group, IMO.

Great post, glad you didn't try to follow, keep it safe and kick that woman to the curb.

glad you made it home safe.  needless to say, i'm sure you won't be riding with them again.  its a learning experience, and i'm hoping you just learned something.

Wow... You asked for advice, you listened, and heeded that advice.   :thumb:   Absolutely wonderful, there are a lot of people who can't do that these days.

Sounds like you thought independantly, anayzled the situation, and rationally made a smart choice.  Using your head like that will keep you alive and enjoying motorcycles for years to come.  Good job.

i dont go on night rides... cause i like to be able to see what is coming up...

the group i ride with always stop and wait when changing roads... and even go back to find stragglers if they are taking a long time...

Typically people do put the lesser experienced person at the back of the pack... But that's usually for the teams safety, not to just leave them in the dust!

The folks u are riding with sound like  :nana:  wankers.

Usually you put the slower/newer riders toward the rear with an experienced rider to take the sweeper spot.  This person needs to be quick, but also be able to enjoy riding at the slowest rider's pace.

Your point?

It sounds like you are still hooked on your ex which is a mistake to take with you on a ride.  If your mind is on her and not on the road then you should not ride in a group where she is on another bike with another guy.

If you are new to bikes then in my personal view you should not worry about the so called group rides since there are always stupid things to happen in most groups rides unless you are hanging out with the Gullwing group or in most cases the BMW's since most of these groups have already done the stupid shaZam! years ago and have decided to ride safe.

Whenever you get more than two bikes together it usually becomes some type of race and the chance of mistakes increase so be careful with your group that you ride with.

They put you at the back because you were new and no one wants to crash because the new guy did somesting wrong in front of them and also you were on the smaller bike as far as power and the other rides feel that the size of the bike has some bullshit relation to the riders skill level which as we all know is BS.

Just be careful out there and forget about the ex at least while you are riding or you will be dead.

forget the ex.. she isnt worth it. My ex came back asking for a second chance. So far she aint getting it. I am too tired with all the flak i got when i was in the relationship.

Forget the ex.. and get a new riding group. Plus canyons / twisties at night are harder.. you got to make sure you dont over ride your headlights.

Learn to ride a road at day time a few times before hitting it at night time.
