Title: Pirelli Speed Demons REVIEW (PICS inside)
Post by: gs500fromnb on June 10, 2005, 12:15:26 PM
So, I bought the speeddemons a while ago, I must have about 1000 miles on them roughly..

Compared to the BT45's I found them to be more confidence inspiring, the only thing is I've yet to feel the limit of the tires, the 45's I remember them feeling greasy when I was pushing them. You loose a tiny bit of lean angle with these but boy do they get hot! They get hot fast and stay that way. I can stop for a good hour or so, step out and feel the tires and they'll be still pretty hot. For a "sport touring" tire they certainly suprise me...

Here are some macro shots of the tires to show just how much heat they take in, they are scuffing almost like a race tire on street riding (and I dont ride that agressive either)...

Either way, I kinda want to try avons if they say their "sticky"

what size tire is that on the rear? stock? or a 150? :dunno:

I fitted the Sport Demons a while ago too, and I too, am impressed by the grip they offer. I have scrubbed the tires all the way to the edge on the front and the rear, and got the same result with the rubber peeling away like you have gotten...on the rear AND the front.

Now...I do ride pretty aggresively, but sine this is my fourth set of tires for the GS (Stock Exedras to BT-45's to Metz 330/550 to the Pirelli's) I have to say I think we have a winner when it comes to a good set of tires for the venerable GS :thumb:

stock size... wouldnt bother with a 150... 130's make it all the more flickable.

Are those the same as the Diablo Strada?

I'm in the market for some new tires, and those, well, thats a damned good review. I dig. :-)

Where did you get em?

What kinda mileage are people getting out of these compared to other tyres?

I've had mine on now for about 2000 miles, but haven't experienced the "hot"  scaring in the original post's images. That said, I've only been out a few days over 80 degrees (been a cool and rainy spring). The wear rate seems to be quite good so far.

I really do love these tires.  My only comparison were the stock Eudoxas', but compared to those I can't say enough good things. I'm running the stock sizes with a 130/70 on rear.

It would be more flickable if the profile is more triangular but the only thing a larger diameter gives you is stability right?

And I'd believe you do have different rubber if you have a gixxer wheel :dunno:

Eisenfaust, it is probably a similar compound as the Stradas as the stradas seem to pick up where the demons finished sizewise. I picked mine up at a yamaha dealer near here that gave me 40% off list.

the bigger tire makes it lazier handling. i got 140's and its not as flickable as the 130s, next time im getting back to 130.

Its tire buying time for me, i only have 8000 KM on my bike, and need to replace my BT45s. Burnout are fun o.k.. Anyways, I have a few i am interested in and what your opinion.

I would like the:

1- Pirelli Sport Demon 140/70/17 or 150/70/17
2- IF it could possibly fit i would love to get the Pirelli Diablo 150/60/17
3- Bridgestone BT45 140/70/17 or 150/70/17.

According to the Bridgestone website, the 150 will fit a 3.5 inch rim. I would really like to get the Diablo 150 as is a extremely sticky tire, but dont know about the fitment. My next question would be what the main difference between a 150/70/17 and a 150/60/17 is. Cons?

I did all my research about the available tires off the search, now i got my own questions.

Merci!!
