I was going down the 401 last night, and decided now that my engine is broken in, i would try to get the GS up to 200km/h. :P It hit 180, then wouldn't go ne faster. :x I tried again, and got to about 192 :) and then it started to chug like it was out of gas. I slowed down, hit the reserve switch, and went to the next gas station. It only cost me like $8 to fill up, so i know it wasn't out of gas. Any ideas what it could have been? :dunno:
Pretty sure it is the frame mounted petcock. Mine shut down at 115Mph (185Kph) when I went for my "speed run". Have not tried again since but pretty sure if you switch to "PRI" it won't starve for fuel. Seems you had better luck though, mine did not just sputter....it completely shut down. It was still pullin' though when it died :)
the gs is known for highspeed fuel starvation
How about the rev limiter?
When does it kick in?

When your valvetrain goes all to hell...
to our knowledge the GS500 doesnt have a rev limiter from factory. other then valve float at about 12500rpm
If I put it to PRI, isn't that "off". Maybe this is a dumb question, but i don't know much about the mechanics of bikes. Res is reserve, On is On, and i thought PRI was off. Maybe this is one of those jokes that make fun of how stupid someone is, normally i get those, but maybe not! Ne way someone let me know, because i don't want to hit 190 again and have it on pri and have no way of getting gas to the engine.

"on" is only "on" when the engine is running..
"res" is the reserve tank
and "pri" is for those times when you run both tanks dry and the carbs need "primed" before they will work..
Without turning the chicken to "pri" when you run completely out of gas, you would have to crank your starter for several minutes to get fuel into your carb bowls..
in many ways, "pri" is more on then "on" is...
Clear as mud?
I have a question that is unrealted but I didn't want to create a new thread, where is Kerry's maxium fill technique posted I haven't been able to find it at all on the web site. Thanks guys.

I think
this is the most complete posted version.
For some of the methods that others use, see
this thread. I recently had good results using a method similar to
Rema1000's.
