Title: I have never gotten
Post by: Roadstergal on June 13, 2005, 12:21:13 AM
as much attention on any other vehicle as I get on the F.  Not on the beemers, the SV, the Savage, even the '00E, which was basically the same bike.  I'm used to people walking by the SV when I've parked it and commenting positively on it - things like that - but in the ~1100 miles I've put on the F so far, I've had people stop and walk back after walking past it parked to say nice bike; I've had guys pull up next to me on the freeway and give a thumbs-up; and today, as I was leaving the gas station, a gal leaned out of the window of her minivan and shouted "Hey, nice bike!"

I'm as much of an attention whore as anyone, so it's nice, but it's still bizarre.

The SV was sulking when I got back from errands (excuse me, I'm faster; don't I get any attention?), so I took it out for a run.  And it started raining.  Oh well.  But I was paying a little more attention to the differences between the SV and GS...
More torque on the SV, of course.  And the SV is jerkier on and off throttle at low revs.  Smooths out a lot at high ones.  And when I lean the SV, if I don't do a good strong lean, the wheel swings around in the direction I'm going, so I end up weighting the outside peg at higher speeds than I do on the GS.  The sewing machine whirr of the GS is delightfully smooth; the buddadada of the SV is delightfully unsmooth at idle.  The riding position is pretty much the same from the waist down, and more aggressive on the SV from the waist up.

Well, there are my ramblings for an evening with the bikes after a little time away.  My camera wasn't feelin' the low light.

threadjack: the three times I've crashed the bike I was sober, and broke enough crap that i had to put money into her to get her back on the road. 2 of the 4 times I've droped it i whould have gotten a dui if a cop was around, and the other two times I was just so tired I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. all 4 times I just picked her up, kicked the dirt off and and went on my way.

I know how you feel.  I have the DL650 and it's great long distance road bike.  It's been gathering dust all week.  I keep going back to the GS.
It's addictive.  Smooth gear box, engine, every movement is smooth.
Love to rev that engine and it rewards you with everything you want you just have to make it work for you.

I would venture you're getting more attention on the F because a)people applaud a good first bike choice (their assumption this is your first and only bike) and b) the F is new and more in people's mind than the old gs.

and you're cute. :thumb:

and this bike probably has a good title

and this is why title type(good/branded/salvage)
doesn't matter
condition of the bike does.

It's the YELLOW helmet!

People stare at my jacket...  Not 'cause it's cool, but because it's HOLY-CRAP-DAY-GLOW-GREEN.  :)

I actually had a friend find me on I90...  He saw me about 5 miles back. :thumb:

people like yellow, and they like full fairings.

Put something like this on your SV and everyone will comment:

Still, I think the GS500 *is* a nice bike!

Force a flash fill. If you time the light just right, you could get a really cool shot. Dramatic sky light, subtle flash fill. Try it with some crumpled tissue paper in front of the flash point. That diffuses the point source and reduces "stars" on the shiny places.

You've got a great eye.  :thumb:

I've yet to decipher the + and - settings of AE and other cryptic things on digital cameras. Just when I think I've got it, I screw up another batch of pics.

Isn't that Slowmike's SV?  Rather, his ex-SV?
