Title: New Gear??
Post by: lilspider on June 13, 2005, 03:58:25 PM
Can anyone tell me a good inexpensive place order a Jacket and Helmet.  I live in Alaska, and the choices are very limited.

Thanks

You really really really really need to try helmets on...

So, at least go to a store to find one that fits before ordering it online...

I think you should try to go to a shop and try on some stuff.  Otherwise, you might end up buying and returnign a lot before you find stuff that fits.  Gear is sized in all kinds of wacky ways and helmets all fit differently.

Not sure about store selection in Alaska  :dunno: Kinda stinks because trying stuff on is definately needed. Scorpions websites sizing page was pretty spot on for my helmet size though. YMMV.

True... Jackets, gloves, and pants too...  But, I think Helmets are the most important to try on...  The wrong helmet will be TERRIBLE after a short ride...  There's nothing like getting your head smooshed.   :x

if you can't find a store try things on, it's not a problem. i've bought most of my gears online, some of which i couldn't try on becasue the local store didn't carry them. reference the measurements on the manufacturer's website and do some research. some brands are looser than other.

as for the helmet fit  which is very important. if your head is not comfortable, you won't enjoy riding. if a helmet fits comfortably the first time, it's too big. it should be pretty snug. eg, if you can move the helmet side to side even an inche, it's too big. in time, get a helmet that has a pretty tight fit in the beginning. it'll conform to your head shape and give you very good fit.

You might want to try out Alaska Leather on Benson and Artic.

Thanks to all.  I tried AK Leather already.  Prices high and stock low.  I just ordered a jacket, helmet, and gloves from newenough.com.  Total cost $210, including shipping.  Nice deals, especially if you shop their closeouts.

I also ordered my gear from newenough.com. Their customer service is great!!  The jacket I ordered ended up  being 1 size too large and they sent me a smaller one no problem.  Nice people to do business with!!
