has anyone chromed there rims for the GS? i want to do this and i was wondering how much it would cost, i was also thinking of getting a wileyco can and getting a friend to reroute it under the seat? anyone try any of this? thanks...
Both will cost a small fortune but can be done. with the rims you will note that the 3 spokes are not smooth so that would have to be done unless you like a ripple effect. The exhaust is a bit of a trick. Have you seen how big that can is? how much clearance would you like between your tire and your pipe. I am thinking that more than 1/16th of an inch would be nice, aye? Look if you want the Super bike look then buy one. This is a GS500 not a busa. you can go undertail but you will have to redo the rear section of frame and that is going to cost unless you are a welder by trade. I think by the time you pay someone to do all these mods ( unless you are able to do all of them) it will cost you way more than the bike is worth.
Why? Doesn't seem to be cost effective plus the powder coated rims are what it's all about!!! In my opinion. :mrgreen:
Chrome is only going to add weight to the bike plus, do you really want the hassle of cleaning them? :dunno: Also, a valid point was made. They'll have to be stripped before they're chromed if you don't want the ripples to show.
i say go for it, if you really want to do it. sorta like faaxxy and his civic exhaust. You can probably cut the can shorter and rivet it back together to make from cleanance. I have looked at it much but it could probably be done. D&D cans are smaller in diameter so you might want to check those out too. I was thinking it would be cool to have chrome rims but its way to much for me, also I would upgrade the rear wheel to a gixxer750 wheel that way you could run a 150 or 160 in the rear instead of the skinny 130. There is nothing wrong with stock but I think it would be a waste to chrome stock and have it skinny. Go for it. It would make an awesome street fighter.

actually yes i have about 2 years welding and blacksmithing experience, and i like chrome, i can polish the rims and then get somebody else to chrome em, just wondering how much it will cost
I think around 500 for a set of rims to be chromed. That is what the trade in is to send your rims in and they send you back chromed rims. They dont have the gs though but I bet it would be around 350 or so if you did the prep work.
and im doing it cause i love the GS, i dont want a busa i wanna be unique. Isn't that what this website is all about?

ya, haha well im gonna polish my rims maybe it will look good just like that!, and i saw a micron oval can i bet i could fit under the seat after i do some fancy fender elimination, if i ever get it done ill post pics

If you can do the welding then take a look at Jim Knopf's bikes, I think he did one with the undertail . Might be able to get some Ideas of of his bikes or msg him!

I put an undertail exhaust on the streetfighter project I did.

It cannot be done with the stock seat, and you will have to put a GSXR shock on to raise the tail by an inch and a half or you will not have tire clearance. I used a SuperTrapp internal disc can. They are very small.

Usually a sportbike that has had the bodywork and every other non-esential piece removed. They are big in Europe. Google it.
