did any one see this on the news yesterday
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8221336/
dude on a bike ran from cops, doing 135 at somepoints on the freeway, cops couldnt keep up, guy went through 3 different freeways and onto some surface streets, parked in a mall parking complex, ditched the bike. Cops found the bike but still cant find him.
I dont remember the last time someone actually got away from the cops once the chase started. I know they will still get him cause now they have the bike and can run the plate, etc, but they didnt "catch" him so to speak.
I was watching that on fox news. About 2 minutes before he went into the mall, I said to my fiance, "the best thing for him to do would be to go into a mall parking garage so the shopper can't see him. Ditch the bike. Ditch the riding gear in a garbage can, and walk away."
I guess I am a criminal mastermind....mu-wa-ha-ha-ha-ha (maniacle laughter)
They will only catch him IF it was his bike. If the bike was stolen he's home free.
what if he denies it was him? goes out and gets a used jacket and lid off craigslist, to show that he still has the gear. goes home calls the cops tells them that he saw a bike like his on tv and went home cause it really looked like his, and his was "stolen" while he was at work.
they will have to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, thay it was him riding during the chase. They potentially have the following evidence with which to do so:
- bike (presumably registered to somebody)
- fingerprints on the bike (assuming they took prints, which is done MUCH less frequently than TV would have us believe)
- tv footage showing the rider in his gear
- any security camera or eye witness sightings at the mall
- eyewitnesses (if any) who may have seen the guy get on his bike, ride to school.work, etc.
- witnesses (if any) who have previously seen the owner riding that bike in that gear, or seen similar gear in his house
- any gear recovered from the mall (if he ditched the gear)
- any credit card reciepts showing his purchase of the gear, or purchases of gas somewhere near the beginning of the chase.[/list:u]
just speculating on the above...
It would actually be a pretty interesting case to try. Not sure how expensive it would be, or how pissed the relevant PD is about letting the guy get away, but I think it is safe to assume that the local DA will want to vigorously prosecute the case (if possible) so as to discourage people from trying to flee like this in the future.
Still, the guy is a fricking genius for being able to think of that escape in the heat of the moment. I'm just glad he wasn't hurt and, mor importantly, that nobody else was hurt because of his dumbass chase.

Looks like they got him...I didn't even realize this was right around the corner from where I live...
cool. :thumb:
at the end of the newscast, they said police have search the registered owner's home, but still haven't found him.
"They'll never catch me man, you know why? Because I'm f$cking innocent."

well he tried the reported stolen thing, seemed to not work. Just because they arrested him doesnt mean that he will be convicted, they still have to prove that it was him, which may or may not be easy.
Isnt there a guy in england that messes with the cops. I remember seeing a video and not sure if it was here or elsewhere, I think the guy rolls a black bike and all black gear with no license plate.
there used to be a guy in a "stealth" corvette that did that in the US when radar guns started gaining popularity. He had active radar jamming stuff, all black car and ran with no lights.
Active jamming is now (not sure if it was then) illegal in almost every state, even those where you can use a radar detector.
I think the guy in England was Ghostrider. Rode some insane Hyabusa with like 500HP or something nuts like that. Hes dead now I belive.

I like that they charged him with perjury and filing a false police report. Under the circumstances (that he confessed during the same meeting with police where he initially lied), those are "up yours" types of charges.
Please, people, never confess to anything, ever, without talking to a lawyer first.
