hey guys what kind of brake pads are really good to get, considering i do some canyon riding and plan on doing track days?? whats at the top of the list??? And is it hard to change the pads? first time for me
no its not hard you basically just take the caliper off and the pads come out. Its pretty easy, if you dont have a manual then get one, that way you can have it sitting next to you fro reference when doing the change. I dont know for any good pads really. I just went to the dealer and asked for ones that would work on a gs500 and they gave me some.
EBC is used by a lot.
I used the EBC sintered pads last time...work great
About how long should front and rear brake pads last under average conditions?

EBC double-H if they offer them for your bike and while you are at it install a stainless steel or kevlar brake line on the front.
The most over looked item when one wants better brake are the tires. If you have crap tires all the brakes in the world will still leave you with crap braking or unsafe braking.
If you are doing track days invest in quality tires if you have not already done so.
Brakes are only as good as the tires will allow!
someone said since we have single disk brakes the stainless steal line wont help to much. For R bikes they the brake line splits, so when they upgrade to the steel ones it applies equal pressure to both sides. any feed back on that? i figured it would belp anyway cause the rubber ones still flex when they heat up.
Im telling you now, SS lines will not make a difference ont he street. I would do stoppies on my GS with no problems on the stock pads and lines. Your fine. (i know i know, i shouldnt be doing stoppies.)
SS lines will make a difference unless you are just a casual rider, then no. Any spirited riding to racing they will make a difference in feel and hand fatigue.
Also, how old are your rubber brake lines? Are they original? Rubber does age.
ya they are original iam sure, have not been messed with at all. i do plan on track days and stuff, so i think it would be a smart upgrade

Yes, the stcok stup works but I guess you have never upgraded to stainless steel or kevlar brake lines because if you have you would notice a better more controlable feel at the lever.
With the better brakes lines your are getting a better feel across the range of the lever so you do not end up with a progressive rate which the stock rubber lines tend to produce.
The question to ask is have you used stainless steel or kevlar brake lines on your GS500?
