Title: Tips on an 88 XT600, YDIS?
Post by: VTNewb on June 24, 2005, 08:01:20 AM
My buddy Jared who works at a Harley dealership picked up another buddy of mine, Phil, a XT600 that was traded in, got it for 500 dollars. We got it running last night by pushstart and we road it around a couple times. It had alot of carb pops and wouldn't run very well. Today I set out at undoing the carb and cleaning her out for phil, who has never ridden before. Well I take a look at it, One carb, one big ol Tube labled YDIS next to the carbs, two exhaust pipes. I start thinking its a twin but only one plug wire. After me and my good friend google found out it was Yamaha Dual Intake system, does anyone know and procedure about removal and cleaning? I'm about to just take it off and go for it. I've done tons of carb cleanings on inline fours, but this other thing isn't a carb, just has lots of hose running around.

Question, what does dual intake into one cylinder do for you?

Oh and the funny part, I was trying to solve carburetion issues on my bike, but because of YICS, yamaha intake control system, I couldn't synk the damn things without a special tool. Crazy yamaha engineers.

Title: Maxim

OK maxim carbs ... gimme a break ... these are simpler than GS carbs if you can believe that ... OK fine lots of carbs are simpler than GS carbs really ... but ... you take them off and eyeball synch them ... In fact I do GS also that way ... look at light ... and synch ... maxim is a joke ... simple motor, simple carbs ... just overall sweet simple bike ... in fact its a whole degree simpler than a GS in all respects ... I'll put up pics of mine ... but its going to be cool.
Your XT I believe has a little carb and a big carb doesn't it ... low end was better with little one and top end with big ... so why not run 2 ... only 2X the headache ...
Cool.

Oh I cleaned my maxim carbs fine, I just needed a 50 dollar special tool to be able to sync them  :(

I just went and unbolted everything and hozed it down with carb cleaner. I was afraid of rubber diaphragms in the dual intake but no such device, so it's all good.

Calculated risks?  :dunno:

You dont need that funky ass long threaded rod with radiator hose on it ... Yank off the carbs and look at sunlight and eyeball synch it.
Cool.
