Title: What a ride!!!
Post by: gikim1118 on June 25, 2005, 05:08:44 PM
I took my first real long ride today.  From Columbus to Steubenville, OH (about 2 1/2 hours on highway)  I took rte 22 most of the way.  windy roads and fast straightaway.  Some of the turns had me sweating a little bit.  almost scraping the foot petal.  But it was fun and I lived to tell the tale.

One thing i did notice was when coming back, I was on Rte 70 going about 75-85 mph on sixth gear.  All of the sudden it started to sputter like it was running out of gas (i had just filled up) then engine cutoff on me going 75mph.  When I pulled over and it started right back up.  Now I've read couple posts about fuel starvation at high speeds but engine just completely shutoff?  :dunno:  I even had the petcock set on prime.

Anyways, I made it back fine using just 5th gear.  Overall, great ride.    :P

that's normal, you just vaccume locked the tank.  it happens when you try to suck gas out too fast and you build up a vaccume in the tank.

Wait a minute...

This whole "starvation" thing has me confused.  How can it starve in 6th gear and not in 5th?  I mean it's revving FASTER in 5th than in 6th so it should be starving more.

PLEASE explain your logic.

my thought was the vibrations on 5th's high revs helps for fuel to drip faster...kinda like freeing up air bubbles...but it think its just me
