So I thought by dropping the GS, my wife would be comfortable riding it.  Wrong.  Even with a 1.5 inch drop, the bike is still a bit high and a little too top heavy for her to handle (5 feet 0 and very short inseam).  Anyhow, she's decided to go with a 250 cruiser as her first bike  :roll: .

I've advertised it on a local Toronto website for $5200CDN ($4230USD), which includes the lowering dogbones, a luggage rack (Rennet I think) and a Givi Monolock E350 flow matte black monolock case.  Not sure if it's a fair price, given that there aren't very many used GSF's on the market here.  I'll see how it goes, and if it doesn't go well, I'll drop it by a few hundred dollars.

thats unfortunate.....did she ever consider EX250, those should be a blast to learn on, and look kind of sporty too

I'm 5 feet 2 inches my first bike was a honda rebel.  I liked it because i could touch the ground flat footed but it was too slow for me and i got my gs500.  I would recomend the rebel they are good little bikes and they are also cheap and hold their value.

Hooray at 5ft 4 I thought I'd be the shortest  :lol: I can only touch the ground with the front of my feet so thank god the bike isn't over 200kg dry or by now it would be stuck on its side somewhere along a country road :lol:

Another good bike to learn on though getting a bit old are the 85 honda cbx250 i could touch ground easily and as for a short inseam the bike is so thin your knees almost feel like they will touch they are cheap and super reliable couldn't kill it with a sledge hammer and if theres an easier bike to ride out there I haven't found it although look for front disk wear :thumb:  :cheers:

I've been keeping my eye on the GS500's in Ontario (in the bike trader) and that's a pretty reasonable price, especially with the extras.  I would think you'd get $5000 CDN for sure unless there's nasty "been-dropped" marks.

I can't get my wife to try the GS either.  She's a cruiser gal for sure.  She got the Kawasaki Vulcan 500.  Great bike.

In fact, we're checking out one tomorrow.  I've sort of convinced her to try one out.  Even at just over 29 inches, I think it might be ok.  Especially since it's nearly 100lbs lighter than the gs.

That definitely made the short list.  The more my wife reads about short women rider first bike experiences, the more she's convinced that a 26 or 27 inch seat height crusier is the right ride.  I'm not so convinced, but that's easy for me to say, given I'm not 5 foot nothing.

Heh.  Actually, I was thinking of trying to get my friend to sell his Honda CB500 CB1 to me.  It's small, light, and very very flickable.  I thought that it might be a good first for my wife.  But given he went down on it just a few months ago, and now needs to replace the speedo/lights/clutch and cable, I'm not sure I want it right now  :nono:

Yeah, I hope so.  I thought that $5200 was pretty fair.  If I get $5000 for it, so be it.  If no one buys it for that much in a few weeks, and I end up selling it for $4500, so be it.  I'll let the market decide.  Although I love the bike, and will always have a sweet spot for it in my heart given it was my first bike, I really do need to sell it so I can justify the purchase of the  next bike for my wife.

If a lowered F doesn't do it, dunno if an EX250 will be that much better... if she wants a little cruiser, consider a Savage.  It's a little more flexible, in terms of highway-ability, than a Rebel.  Very low seat height and light weight.  I did like mine muchly.

Yeah, that's what I thought.  However, after checking out the spec's I figured it was worth a shot (GS / EX):

- 31.1 inches (lowered to 29.6 inches) vs. 29.1 inches stock
- 400lbs vs. 300lbs

I think if I lowered the ex250 by another 1.5 to 2 inches, it would be nearly the same height as a 250 cruiser.  However, she'd be getting sport bike type experience, and hopefully wouldn't be part of "the dark side" even for a short while.
