I think it goes by the year, like CBRs have F1, F2, etc.

ES is 1995, ET is 96, EV is 97 (Skips vowels)

Looking into it more.. looks like the "S", or "P" is the year? or has something to do w/ the year?

Still looking...

I recently updated my Parts Fiche Catalogs (http://www.bbburma.net/Documents/GS500_Parts_Fiche_1.html) page to show the model year letters.  If you look at the parts listings for other Suzuki models, you will see that ALL Suzukis have the SAME suffix for a given year.

BTW, you can use the suffix letter stamped into your VIN plate to confirm your bike's model year:

Yep, kerry's right on as usual.  The x in his picture shows that that bike is a 99.  My bike is a GS500ex since it is a 99, a 98 would be a GS500ew, and a 2000 would be a GS500ey, etc.

Naw, the number is the generation in the CBR F's... it signifies a design change, not necessarily a year model.  It is, however, the year in the GS.

It's the code dealers use to figure how much to overcharge you.

Sorry, I wasn't clear there. Yes, F1, F2, etc. for CBRs denotes the generation (I think they're F4 or F5 now?) just like Corvettes go C1, C2, etc. up to the current C6 (how I miss my C3  :( )

Our letters denote year. I'm something like F or G or so on my '05.
