Title: Search Function Issues
Post by: Phaedrus on July 01, 2005, 04:32:16 PM
Does anyone else have problems using the site's search function?

I've noticed a few times when I try and do a search, I just get a bunch of nonsense results that have nothing to do with what I was searching for.

I've tried searching using "specific quotes", I've tried being logged in under my username, tried searching being a guest, all the same. I've tried clearing my cookies and leaving the site and coming back.

Anyone else have the same problem?  :dunno:

Perhaps you could tell one of us what you are searching for and we can look it up for you. I'd offer, but it's 5 o'clock and I'm not allowed on the kid's computer at home. So, I'm offering this suggestion in hopes that a fellow good samaritan GS'er will search for you. Otherwise, if I don't get to sneak onto my kid's computer this weekend, you'd have to wait til Monday for me to search for ya.

Happy 4th of July!

Thank you. But it doesn't seem to matter what I search for. Sometimes it will work, but most of the time it doesn't.

Who knows..maybe it is an "ID 10 T" error. THat is why I wanted to see if anyone else had the problem.

HERE (http://gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14409) is a similar topic.  (I dug it up again by searching for the word "prolific".   )

John Bates' post makes a good point, especially since topic titles aren't always well-thought out.  Towards the bottom of the thread I posted a bunch of screen shots and observations about how the search system seems to work.  Maybe they will help?  :dunno:

make sure if you are searching for many words at once to tie them together with AND or OR. unless you did that and are still seeing the same problem.
