Well once again my bike has decided to be stupid and not work right, and I need as much help as I can get. Ok well my bike is an 04gs500f and it was runing perfect until it started to stutter last friday so I looked in the gas tank and saw that the gas was low. So I put the bike inside the house because I was going for a trip and when I came back on monday I was too lazy to put gas in it so taday like a week later I rolled it to the gas station which is next to where I live. I put 3.5 gallons of 91 octane and when I tried to stsrt the bike to leave the gas station it would not start so I gave it nearly full throttle and it sputtered to life when I tried to go the bike kept sputtering so I reved it high and took off fast. Then when I got home and let off the throttle it died out. The bike runs fine as long as you give it lots of throttle is that a problem. It will idle at aroung 1300rpm for a little the it will gradually drop unitl the bike dies. The bike is a 2004 GS500F with 750 miles and just took it to the shop not to long ago to have a tune up and have the engine checked. Any suggestions on wht the problem is.
I know this might sound a bit lame but check to make sure you didnt leave the choke on, that will make it run like crap. Also what position is your petcock in? make sure your not on prime.
couple of simple ones to check first.
Im sure it's not running with the choke on because I checked. And the fuel is in the ON position.
sounds electrical. You might not be running enough voltage at 1300RPM to keep the system charged.
Ja, slap a voltmeter on the battery and check the charge.
And might as well put 87 in there... in a month, that might be a latte's worth. :p
Well there is no 87 octane here all I see is 86 which is cheapest followed by 88 then 91 octane. I doubt its electrical but ill give it a check same thing happened last time and thats why I took it to the shop and they said the spark plugs were all black. or maybe its the hot weather it was like 107 today any other ideas.
Black plugs? Do you make mostly really short trips?
If so, you're probably running it too rich chronically and fouling the plugs. If not, it's still under warranty - take it to the dealership.
Well really short trips, yes mostly in the parking lot where I live and I have taken it out on the street only a couple of times for maybe 20 miles but I have added like 100 miles of parking lot 20mph driving.
BUMP Anyone else have an idea of what may be wrong???
If the plugs are black around the threads, that may be OK. But if they're black on the tips of the electrodes, then there is a problem. There are lots of things which can make the bike run lean, but not too many things which could make the bike run rich. Maybe there is a squirrel's nest plugging-up the air filter?
You might start with new sparkplugs, which might temporarily fix it. If the problem comes back (black plugs), then I would just take it back to the dealer if it's under warranty.
I would guess your trips are too short to get the bike to temp or charge the battery.
SQUIRRELS WTF are those kust kidding I dont think there is squirrels here in el paso mabe lizards but no squirrels. Oh and the plugs are all black and charred all over and they are pretty new.
I might have to go with Darkcyde on this. If your choke is not on, it may be stuck on, or too tight (so it is always a little on). Otherwise, it could be the airfilter (making it rich by not allowing air in) or something in your carbs such as floats making it run rich. However, the bike being new, I doubt it is the filter or the carbs. I know you've checked, but because you are relatively new to the bike and the whole choke deal, I want you to make sure that the choke is pushed all the way forward (away from you) before you do anything else. I only say that because if it were me, that is the type of mistake I tend to make.
Yup the choke is pushed away from me all the way. Today I reved the bike and the smell of gas was in the exhaust and it threw out block smoke. Also I cheked the plugs and when I took them out they were wet with gas.

The lever may be all the way forward - but the smell of gas says that you have one of three problems-
1. The choke is on - if the cable is routed wrong or adjusted too tight it can be on even when the lever is in the Off" position. Adjust a bit of slack into the cable.
2. Your floats are adjusted so the fuel level is too high and/or you have a leaky (sunk) float.
3. The float valve seat is leaking, letting gas continue entering the float bowl even after it is shut -
I think the bike may be runing rich is it possible that the 3800foot altitude and the 106 degree temperatures are affecting combustion. I mean air is less dense at altitude and high temp. could this be causing the richness.
Well, in your opening post you said:

The altitude didn't change, right?
How big of a temperature change from when it ran perfect to when the problems started?
Something must have changed. If it wasn't the altitude or the temperature, then I have a sneaking suspicion about where the change happened....
Did the shop install a more restrictive air filter? Larger jets? Did they tell you everything they did as part of the "tune up'?
Nah I dont feel comfortable working on my bike because I might break it but the temp was like in the mid 90's last week and we have been having high temps of over 105 degrees all this week. I think the temp does affect it a bit because me and my bro went up in a Cessna (airplane) and the temp was around 106 and the plane took forever to accelerate and I had to lean the mixture a bit more than normal.

That's OK by me .... really!
Still, either you or the shop should be keeping track of every little thing done to the bike. You never know when the records might contain a clue for occasions like this.
I guess you have two options at this point:
1) Wait until the temperature goes down and test that possibility. (Night runs?) But your symptoms sound like "too rich" rather than "too lean", so ... :dunno:
2) Find out what the shop did so we can have more data to work with.[/list:u]I'm pretty sure you won't be able to try Option 2 before Tuesday. Meanwhile, report back on anything else that you notice.
