Title: What to do with centerstand after Wileyco install
Post by: vfrocket on July 02, 2005, 09:34:09 PM
Step 1: Remove offending centerstand.

Step 2: Kick that M*&!$ F*+# to the curb!

Problem solved.

just wait till you want to lube the chain, or change the oil.

Does the centerstand have to be removed to install the wileyco and if so..why?

Also..I don't use the centerstand to lube my chain..haven't been able to get it on the centerstand by myself (wuss?). I just roll it down the driveway till the chain is all lubed..haha. I prolly look like a fool. Darn.  :nana:

no you dont have to remove it after a wileyco install, some zip tie a piece of rubber tire to it to keep it from coming up.

I just decided to remove it all together.

chain lube, and oil change are not an issue, I just borrow my dad's motorcycle jack.

BTW - how did it run with the can and without the jetting?

I did rejet. DJ stage 3 with K&N lunchbox. Runs great...

I did test it once before I rejetted, and it seemed to run fine with stock jetting. I really dont have any test equipment to tell you for sure if it was lean or rich, but it seemed to be just fine.

I also started it up without the can, and just the flange for kicks, and it was loud, but it sounds much deeper and throatier with the wileyco.

Cool.  I just want the look and sound; if I can get away without rejetting while keeping the option of doing it down the road, I will.

Srinath made some flanges with chokers.. just a bit of metal to reduce air flow.  I haven't jetted yet.. even though I have had the bike apart enough times to do it.   :dunno:   Shame on me!  But the choker with the Wileco works and sounds great!

Here's a link to my question about jets. I took it to a shop for the jetting and they did a dyno run for like $160. I haven't needed to use the choke since.

I decided not to use the lunchbox filter and went with a K&N drop in style.

-edit-   And the center stand rests in a box on my workbench. I was oiling my chain yesterday and got a funny look from the guy down the street who rides a bandit, I gave him a funny look back, he was riding 2up with another guy...

extreme powersports in columbus ohio, I'm not sure if they have a website but it's a small shop that's owned by a friend of a guy that works with me. They've done a lot of work on my buddy's gsxr and tlr and he recommended them.

that is a good write up. but it is only for the newer GS's.

There are no mid jets on my model. I went with 134 mains, and DJ needle on e clip position #2. kept the same pilot jets.

seems to work fine.

has anyone tried to cut the center-stand stop off the old exhaust and (jb)weld it onto the new pipe?

If you want to sell (cheap) that center stand, let me know as I'd like one for my "new to me" 94 GS500, and it doesn't have one on it....

Thanks,

The center stand wasn't even a factor for the WRX Can..
Although I do have a cycle Jack and use it every chance I get!

I wussed out and took my bike to the shop to have the Wileyco installed. You can see in this pic what they rigged up. They cut the stock bracket off and re-welded it on. Looks pretty good I think  :thumb:

I cut a hotdog sized chunk out of one side of an old tennis ball.  Poked some holes in it, and used zip ties to attatch it to the centerstand.  The tennis ball rests on the dogbones...hopefully this setup will not kill me.

I have the V&H on mine...and here's how I dealt with the centerstand...it's a rubber doorstop with zip-ties...from the local hardware store, hits on the bottom of the Kat shock I put on.
Ghetto-rigged...yee-haa
