I'm curious as to how many of us are taking part in this year's Ride-to-Work Day (http://www.ridetowork.org/pages.php?pageid=12)?
Several where I work are being sure to ride to work, then park in a relatively visible area to show how many in the neighborhood ride.
A local dealer is going to offer free Hot-Dogs, Hamburgers and Brats to lure area bikers for Lunch. Then we're planning a ride to be visible and "smell the flowers" so to speak.
Any of you folks taking part? If so, are there any events planned in your area & if so, what are they?
Roy...
Nope, I won't be participating in the annual event. Where I work, carpooling and taking the bus is just more convenient.
I work for my self.. so if I ride that day.. I guess I will be in !
I'll do it and let some of the guys I work with know about it too :thumb:
I will be riding this year and I will let everyone at work know.
I already ride to work every day :thumb:
I ride to work everyday except if it's raining, is this actually an event that everyone knows about or what?
I'll have to take my camera to work someday... On nice days we get a pretty good line up going.. I'm in, as long as it doesn't rain.. and then maybe..
how else am I supposed to get there?

Glad to see that a lot of us ride to work. With the price of gas going nowhere but up, it makes sense economically as well as ecologically. :thumb:
I ride mine whenever it's nice (since I just started riding). We even have special parking so I no longer have to walk a mile just to get to the front door.
That's another great thing about motorcycling -- impromptu parking is a lot simpler than for a car.
Had a quick errand 130 miles away in Traverse City a week ago and they were having a Cherry Festival. Every car park that was full and street parking wasn't easy to find close to where I needed be. Ah, but my bike could be parked relatively easy. Not a problem actually. :thumb:
But then I'm preaching to the choir...

The place I work has a nice motorcycle parking area of the garage right next to the front door.
Sounds like a plan! 8)
I ride to work everyday, rain or shine... count me in. 8)
Thanks for the reminder Redshift.
So whats with the stupid looking moped in the ad this year? :?
Huh, the scooter looks like a Italjet Dragster... mirrored over (exhaust on the wrong side.) :?
I ride everyday its not raining anyways. So im in!

Now, now, it's not what you ride, it's
that you ride[/color].

Haha, that may be true. But they still could have picked a much better looking two wheeled vehicle to put on ALL of their images, be it a motorcycle or moped.
Provided Dennis doesn't sour things too badly up here, I'll be riding.
Bump. ;)
I ride nearly every day (except when I have to drive the monster for some stupid reason)... So, I'm in. :thumb:
Yup, i'm in, ride everyday rain or shine and love it. There is no better way to wake up in the morning than to the smell of your bike and the feel of engine between your legs.

yep...unless it rains, +1 also :thumb:
I'm ridin' to work too... unless it's raining/snowing too hard. I can take the water; my laptop & other gear can't. :) And they won't fit to the shoebox behind the bike either.
But then again, here we get to ride only about from mid-april to late october anyway... that darn ice & cold weather tends to wreak havoc on everything that moves during the rest of the year.
Bump -- for the last time. :) It's Ride-to-Work Day when the sun comes up.
There's a breakfast at the Lil' Chef, followed by work, followed by lunch and a ride with the area's assortment of riders.
Should be a fun time, so long as nobody brings up the "Repeal of the Helmet Law". :nono: It's like saying your religion is better than their religion.
If ya got'em -- ride'em. :thumb:
I ride to work everyday too (30 miles two ways), and im still waiting for a rain to happen to ride that day too.
gas prices? well, I have 600 miles on the bike, and so far I've spent on 3 tanks of gas (each one costed me some 8.75 US dollars)... ask me if IM happy
Oh! is it tomorrow? :o
what a bad timing. I just came back right now from dropping my bike at the dealer for it's first service. :x
im not getting it back until thursday :bs:
Bummer.
It's all about showing the flag, getting out amoung the cagers and showing them you belong on the road as well.
Park your bike in a location that shows it off. Be conspicuous, but be polite as well. We should be good citizens and responsible riders.
Spread the word -- motorcycling uses less fuel, causes less wear & tear on the roads, is more environmentally frendly and gets you there with a grin. :thumb:
Oh, and be sure to wave to your fellow riders as your pass...
Its gonna be a nice day here in west central PA. I dont have to work, but I will be riding my GS all over the place tomorrow !! :thumb:
be it rain, sun, or snow my gs and I are on the go
I'll be riding, but on my Schwinn or Trek. Still no word from the State on my license. :bs:
Well, rode in today, mild rain -- but that didn't stop me!
My bike and I are here. Was surprised to see a serious lack of other bikers.

With the way people drive here, that's pretty fecking tough. Many thanks to the minivan that changed lanes into me without signaling, even when I honked; the Crown Vic that did the same but at least signaled; the HOV-violating minivan that thought tinted windows would fool everyone, and was plugging along mighty damn slow; the endless stream of left-lane hogs...
I did! I did! I did! I did! I did!
Very pretty weather in S. Cal, but I didn't see many bikes on the freeway! (I saw only 3 bikers...) Where were you guys?!
The car's in the shop and the weather is nice, so add one over here. We have had a record of over one week without rain in Portland, so I put on quite a few miles as of late. :)
Dave
Rode in to work also today...there are actually less bikes in the motorcycle parking area than usual...could be the heat is driving people away, but who knows...anyway, I rode, as I do most days.... :thumb:
I ride to work 95% of the time, and I rode today! So I guess I'm in! ;)
pandy :)
Fewer bikers than normal on the road and at work today. :( The forcasters called for thunderstorms. We had one downpour mid-late morning, but I'm hoping it'll be dry for my ride home, if not, I brought the rain gear :thumb:
DAMN!!!! I had to carry big crap to work today. That figures... I ride to work every day but "Ride to Work day." :x
Yeah rode in today. For LA I agree with scootr I saw less bikes than usual. :dunno: I had a vision of the whole lot full of bikes becasue I know so many people that ride. I think it might have to be with the laid back west coast life. We will have our ride to work day a few days late, when we get around to it. ;)

MstrsLilBrat you are hot.
I work two jobs and I rode to them both today. It was beautiful and there were tons of other fellow bikers out down here in the New River Valley :) When i get off at midnight...
I rode to work today, just like any other day, except that I had to bump start it this morning (my first time too!) Awesome weather here in Vancouver.
Well I rode today, 1st time in quite a while but get this... I totally forgot about 'ride-to-work-day'. Everything happens for a reason! :)

I can't find any Canadian organization (e-mail or web site) that's officially offering the same promotional info that the U.S. organization is doing. All you need is a local dealer to support it and it's as good as recognized.
With the compressed riding season you've got in Edmonton, "every day" should be a riding day so you get your hours of enjoyment in before the snows of October...
It was ambient 95 degrees fahrenheit. Pushing 115 on the blacktop..
To make matters worse, its pouring rain both to the north and the south making it 99% humidity where I am.. :x
Decided it was just best to take the air conditioned cage to work..
Look on the bright side -- you'll be riding when I'll be shoveling snow. Then I'll be the one driving to work...
No kidding....... some snow here way more in Michigan
I called in sick on "Ride to Work Day" and did a Malibu ride. Man was it hot! I had to keep my shirt soaked with water under my leathers.
I saw lots of bikers on PCH, but only 3 riding around the canyons... heaven (besides the heat).
Oops, I forgot which day it was happening, and didn't do anything special. Lucky for me, I ride to work every day anyways :thumb: and the weather has been perfect here for 3 days.
