Title: Best way to drain carbs?
Post by: BigTwin on July 11, 2005, 04:29:31 PM
I need to drain my fuel lines and carbs because I wrecked the bike and need to take all the gas out so it doesn't screw up my fuel system.

What is the easiest way to drain them? And when I'm ready to put gas back in them will I have to mess with the float bowls, or can I just gas it up and go.

Gee ... now I feel obligated!

Here is what the drain screw and drain spout look like on a pre-'01 GS.  The later models should be similar.

For more details on the process, see the Float Height Check page.  Instead of turning the open end of the hose up, just direct it into a fuel-suitable container.  Unless you want to (slowly) drain your entire fuel tank through the carbs, turn off the petcock under the fuel tank first.
