Pull the spark plugs. What color are they? Are they dry or wet?

The first part of your description sounds like a spark issue. Check for corrosion on the connectors leading to the coils and bad spark plug wires.

But the part of loosing oil indicates worn rings, hence lack of compression.

Dragonfly, that sounds like the exact and I mean exact same thing that my bike has been going through, took it to the dealer but they couldn't find anything. I'm curious to see how/if you solve your issues.

I just replaced the plugs in hopes of fixing the problem. It did seem to help VERY little, but a little nonetheless. The old plugs (not very old, less than 3k on them) The right one was fairly cocoa brown, and the left one was definitely a runnning a little lean, and was fairly white.

How would one check the plug wires?? And if they're bad, does that mean replacement of the entire coil???  How much is that gonna cost?

So I got the bike back from the shop this afternoon.. and what do you know it runs great!!!!!

It might have even more power than before all this started.

Ok the problem was the valves (suppose I should do them more often!)
2 of the valves were at ZERO clearance! HOLY CRAP! NO WONDER!
Moral of the story?! CHECK YOUR VALVES MORE THAN ONCE EVERY 20k!! (especially if you ride it like I do!

doing the valve adjustment yourself takes less than an hour - if you post in the thread at the top of the forum to get in line for one of the valve adjustment kits that are circulated amongst the board members, you'll get a selection of shims, the tools you need, and a helpful video made by our own admin Kerry that explains the process.
