Title: OK... This sucks (I just want Tires!)
Post by: RVertigo on July 12, 2005, 06:03:12 PM
I don't know what the deal is around here, but I've been having such a hard time finding tires...  And I really need tires...  I broke lose in a corner and there was nothing there to slide on...  The real tire is pretty much out of tread in the middle.

I've been trying to find a place since about 10:00 this morning........  While my boss comes walking in and asks me why I've been on the phone ALL DAY.   :o   "I'M TRYING TO FIND TIRES!!!!!"   :x  :x

And AAAAAALLLLL of them play the transfer game (except I-90)...  I have to HOLD for parts to see if they have the tires...  :x  And parts puts me on HOLD to look for the tires...  WTF?  They don't have an inventory computer? :x   Then I have to HOLD for service to see how much it is to get them installed...  AND HOLD for them to look at the schedule... :x

I-90 Motorsports says they can "order" tires for me and put them on Saturday...  Bridgestones for $290 installed...

Aurora Suzuki has cheaper tires (About $150 for both)...  Maxis?  Never heard of them...  But, I've been on hold with them 5 times and they've called me back about 5 times all confused about what tires and sizes...  They charge extra for installation, but I have no idea how much because I just told them to f%$k off for taking so damn long...  (They're really busy today  :dunno: )

Renton Motorcycles isn't answering their phone...  (I can only listen to the hold ads for so long, you know...)

Bellevue Suzuki Ducati has a Pirelli Sport demon... REAR ONLY...  for $99.99 + $33 to install on the bike...  $16 to install off the bike...  (Which I'm a little worried about since I don't actually own a torque wrench)...  So...  I can't drop the bike off at night...  So, I'd have to drop it off at 10:00 which it when I have to be at work...  And they close at 6:00 which is when I get off work...  Oh yeah... and...  The service guy's just phone hung up on me twice.

Dude...you need to check out Cycle Gear. Go to www.cyclegear.com and you can find the number and address to the location in Tacoma or Auburn. I go there all the time.....RMC is a sweet place to shop but most of the prices are just flat out high and the customer service pretty much sucks. I called RMC today for a clutch lever and they wanted $29.52 for a frickin clutch lever. I called Cycle Gear in Auburn and they charged me $7.95 for the same part from the same company RMC would have gotten the part from. Both places need to order it and Cycle Gear will take only two business days to get it while RMC told me about 4 or 5 weeks because they need to get a large enough order together so they don't have to pay shipping. Why the big cost difference??? I went to Cycle Gear...placed my order. I also picked up a ICON tank bag and some front and rear brake pads all together out the door I paid around $75.00 and nothing was on sale!!! The best part was I had two guys wanting to help me to make me happy...Call Cycle Gear.

I think you've expressed a paradox:

I think he'll get screwed over a lot less with Seattle Cycle than with the dealers for whom he's currently bending over.  Even Aurora Suzuki, who have always been fairer to me than other dealers.

Well...   No one had my tires. :dunno:

After two full days of utter frustration, I ended up getting a Pirelli Sport Demon (rear only) from Bellevue Suzuki...  99 for the tire and something like 30 for install...  Which was actually the best price I found anywhere.  Most place charge $50-$60 per tire for an "on bike" tire install.

Now I need to order a front...

At least I have tread now...    I should have taken a picture of the tread on the old tire and posted it, but I didn't feel like losing that much respect.

The lesson I learned is..........

PLAN AHEAD!

I could have saved quite a bit by ordering them on the Internet and pulling the wheels for the install. :thumb:

Thanks for the suggestions... Too bad I'm too short sighted to have used it.

I recently (two weeks ago) ordered a set of Avon AvaroST sport touring compounds from swmototires.com for $200 shipped and paid a local shop $40 to get them both mounted since I was too lazy to do it myself.  The Avons were about $30 more, total, than BT-45s or Pirelli Sport Demons would've been, but were still far less than any local shop wanted for any brand  of rubber.  It only took 4 days for them to arrive in OH from AZ.

I've heard that the Avons are pretty cool actually...

I could have saved some money by doing the same thing, but I was totally freaking out about my rear tire...  It was squared off, pretty much bald, and had a nail in it. :o  :o  :o

I finally woke up when I broke loose twice in the same corner...   :nono:
