After following the break-in procedure, last night I finally was able to go above 65mph (5000rpm), and a funny thing happened.
I don't see the point on doing wheelies and im not planning to do any on the future, but after I went to sleep, I dreamed I was doing the so called 'stoppies' :o
you know...

could it mean I will be breaking my neck in the future while trying these things?
not necessarily..
Back when my bike wasn't givin me hell, I tried some stoppies. Wasn't able to get the back wheel up though. I was only locking the front break or not breaking hard enough. :(
I'm sure they're possible on the GS, you probably just need good brakes and a new front tire (both of which I don't have).

The bike is a totally different machine above 5000rpm. You'll actually be able to keep up with traffic without shifting into 5th in town!
IMO, dont do stoppies on a GS. It cannot handle it like a larger sportbike can. Not to mention the single front rotor....
They are also tricks that leave NO room for error, as opposed to a wheelie which are relatively easy to get out of granted your reflexes are up for it. It may kill fork seals, but I'd rather deal with those then a bike flipping on top of me. My 2 cents...

How was your body positioned? I accidentally brought up the rear by about a foot during an emergency stop my arms werent quite ready for. Body leaned over the front and up went the rear. Had I been going a little faster I possibly could have gone more, but I'll never try it again. Puts a lot of stress on the front and just looking at the GS, I'd say its not a good thing to do that. Front gets wobbly with all the weight on it and you're looking at a big headache!!!
I didn't say I would be doing stoopies on my GS... only that I dreamed about it :P
it's just odd to dream about doing stunts when im not even planning to do them.
ill post some pics of me doing stoppies on my gsf when my friend gives my camera back.
yea it will do the stoppies cause ive tried them and i can bring the rear up but i dont think the single caliper front is enough for the stunt like i said it will bring it up if i get up on the tank enough and brake hard enough it comes up at slow speeds but i cant coast it far like some guys can on the bigger bikes , balls just arent big enough
with a single disc brake and 2piston caliper there isn't enough force to do a stunt worth stoppie...just enough to bring the rear supension completly up and an inch more....Personaly I would think after the 3ard-4th time brake fade will even keep the bike from locking up the front wheel....Not to mention hard stops like that spell diaster for a rotor and it beats up the whole front end pretty good.
burnouts/donuts are so much better anyways
i think you were dreaming about your concerns. you dreamed of something you don't know how to do, immediately after doing something you weren't allowed to do before. you're mind might just be wondering what's next and are you prepared for it. i think we all do that a bit, that is if we're smart enough to admit there are things we have to work on to be good at. :) [/i]
So at what rpm do you all isually shift at.

When doing what? Automatic transmissions shift at anything from very low to very high RPM depending on what you are doing with the gas pedal. Most riders are at least as smart as an auto transmission. And, they shift at vastly different RPM depending on wher they are and how they are riding.
Leaving the house late at ningt and have a noisy exhaust? Shift at about 4000 and use small throttle openings. Drag racing? Shift up at the point where the bike will be right below the torque peak in the next highest gear. Curve? Shift to a gear that will let you accelerate out of the corner without needing to shift in the corner -
If you do not specify the circumstances the only answer anyone can reasonable give is somewhere between high enough RPM so it does not lug in the next gear and the redline.
im not into stunts as much as I love the twisties, nothing compares to going into a corner, knee down (not because you try to put it down but because it has nowhere else t o go), hanging off the bike ready to flick your machine to its other side at any moment in preparation for a new corner

ohh! :thumb:
Sorry for not being specific. I mean like in normal traffic. I usually shift when I hear the engine get louder or sound different usually at 3000rpm. But is it ok under normal stop and go driving to shift at lets say 5000rpm instead of 3000rpm.
I'm by no means a bad ass trick rider, not even close. I'm pretty comfortable with doing wheelies from a stop and popping them in traffic doing 15-20mph as my best feat. I also have attempted to get the rear to come up a lil bit never any sucess. The one day I decided to give it slightly more then I normally do, I went over the bars and broke my wrist. Three months later I was doing wheelies still, but I've given up on stoppies on the GS.
Basically, the GS will wheelie just fine. But stoppies will most likely bust your behind.

It varies alot, if I am getting on the freeway or just feeling like twisting it up I will take it to 8 to 10K. In town I try to stay between 4 and 6K RPM, that way to get away from that big SUV or erratic cage driver I have instant acceleration.
