Title: Blinker problem
Post by: JoChan23 on July 16, 2005, 03:08:45 PM
Well, i bought my bike in a april... 1990 gs500e and i am happy i did.  When i got it the left turn signals came on but did not blink... just the other day i noticed that the right ones dont blink anymore either.  There was a few times when for some reason the left ones would blink.  The guy before me put shorter stem signals on the rear.... any ideas on a fix?  Im just scared that when i use my signals someone is gonna think i just have a running light out?

are the replacement signals LED's, rather than regular incandescent bulbs?

Most likely you need to change the bulbs  :thumb:

That would be great if i just had to replace the bulbs

and yes the replacement signals are bulb signals...

but would this still be the case if all 4 didn't blink?

dont get me wrong i would love for it to just be the bulbs

Thanks - Jordan

RayL's got the right question. If they are still bulbs (glass with tungsten filmanets) the most likely culprit is your Turn Signal Relay (TSR).

Regardless, here's my Simplified Turn Signal Schematic...(http://216.77.188.54/coDataImages/p/Groups/41/41309/folders/183441/Thumbnails/1508064TSschemcompjpg.jpg) (http://216.77.188.54/coDataImages/p/Groups/41/41309/folders/183441/1508064TSschemcompjpg.jpg)

The TSR is in the center of it all. You may be able to repair it by cleaning the contacts and soldering the pinch connectors inside the unit. Some have just replaced it with a Wagner from the autoparts store.

sounds like a bad turn signal relay.

Are the bike signals like a car? When one bulb goes out.. they stop blinking to let you know one is out?

I realize that his are possibly lit, and just not blinking

I have the Wagner TSR and when one bulb goes out the other just keeps on a'blinkin.  I don't know about the OEM TSR.
