Title: Errands
Post by: Roadstergal on July 16, 2005, 07:28:35 PM
Today wasn't the most weight or number of things I've gotten on a bike, but I think it's a sheer bulk record for me... pair of shocks, pair of springs, OE seat, new riding pants, my gym clothes, SV undertail, and there's room in the saddlebags for the groceries I need to pick up.

The undertail looks shaky from this side, but it's in there well.

1.  how many bikes do you have???.......(I see the 3 listed in your sig......you've also mentioned an F650??....)

2.  how's the riding up there......my wife and I are planning to move to Tacoma next summer, which'll be a big/drastic change from where I'm at now......

I have three bikes... I used to have an F650.  I sold it and got the Breva.

Mmmm, the Tacoma Aroma... it's a paper mill city, so it does smell like it if you live downtown.  You do get to have the Tacoma Dome, though, which looks like a giant breast.  The riding isn't as good as Cali, but it's better than a lot of folk who don't live here think.

Dude....Tacoma does suck....why do you think we live in Seattle :?

By the way....nice bike Roadstergal. You must make some serious cash to have three bikes and pick up all those cool parts....I'm to broke...I have a daughter. I do what I can when I can with what I have. :thumb:

Why Tacoma.....well.....Ft. Lewis is there (I'm planning on OCS after I graduate next spring)......Heather (wife) is a Evidence Technician (CSI), and Tacoma is one of the better paying places to do this......I've lived in/near larger cities (Philadelphia, Tucson, Phoenix, El Paso) most of my life, I much prefered the time spent in smaller towns (Chico, Virginia Beach).....lastly, home prices in Tacoma are just incredible (at least compared to Phoenix)....

You can also go a little farther south of Tacoma...  Ft Lewis is South anyway...  Olympia isn't bad.

I wish!  I skimp in other places to keep my bikes.  All three are cheaper than one car, factoring in insurance and maintenance...  the Breva was actually a nice deal.  It came out to only a little more than the SVS cost me.

The best part is definitely the moto seat strapped to the moto seat.   :thumb:

Tacoma does not suck. I live there currently. Right now it's like 85 and sunny out, perfect for riding. Yes the riding season is short, and some summers really suck. However there are lots of positives. Like not too overcrowded, room to own large property if you want, houses are super cheap compared to the rest of the country, and Seattle/Bellevue Area. Also, realestate is going up in the area due to all the people who want to buy a home in T-Town. Overall prices are really good. Tacoma is 100% wired for digital cable and high speed internet. You can get Cable internet for under $30 dollars a month and decent cable from the city for $55 including premium channels. This is because Tacoma city has it's own cable company which is way cheaper then Comcast. Also, electricity, water, sewer are all cheaper then Puget Sound Energy and on par with Seattle City Light.

Some areas aren't so nice, but if you look around you can find good neighborhood at a price the average American can still afford.

I hear you get used to the paper mill too...

I love playing shows in Tacoma...  The people there seem like they're way more into music...  Not a bunch of snobby, white-belt-wearing, emo-haired, stuck-up little scenesters like the "Hill" bunch.  And...  Not a bunch of "I only like it if it's on the radio 5,000 times a day" drunken frat boys.

But I'm not bitter...  Not bitter at all.  :nana:

A month?  It's usually nice through most of September...  and most of the time it doesn't get really cold until the end of October.

Rain riding isn't that bad as long as you have rain gear and know that you need to slow down.

RVeritgo, where do you play in T-Town? I've been to most of the live music clubs in the area, and have seen some great shows! I saw Walter Trout at Jazzbones, and got to meet/get autographs from the entire band after the show. It was awesome! Also, what kind of music do you play? I'm mostly into blues/old school rock, which is why I like Walter Trout, but I have a friend that is in a Rock band and have gone to watch a few of his shows. He's an awesome guitarist.
As for Tacoma being more into music, I would agree that you are less likely to see people just trying to be cool, but I'm sure there are people in Seattle that love music just as much. IMO Tacoma's just not as high maintenance as the C-Town.

We've played at Hell's Kitchen a few times...  Gotta love that place. :thumb:  As long as you're not wearing a Polo shirt and boat shoes, it's a pretty no-nonsense place to see a show.

As for the Genre of music...  My main band...  We call it "Rock N Roll" or "The Rock."    You can check it out if you want:  Evil Twin (http://www.eviltwinrocks.com)...  We have more tracks on soundclick, but it's not as pretty to look at.   :P   We just played a show at the Fun House last night...  And we're playing at the Central in Pioneer Square tonight... :o

Then...  I have a "side-project" band, but we never play out:  Jonfrum and the Big Death (http://www.soundclick.com/bands/0/jonfrumandthebigdeath_music.htm).   Then!  I have really bad electronica/D&B type music that I make all by my untalented lonesome:  RVertigo (http://www.soundclick.com/bands/3/rvertigo_music.htm)...  I tend to keep the last one to myself.

How's that for a self-involved THREAD JACK?!?!?

It's pretty short though...  I think some Diesel Boy would be good...  Since all his songs sound the same, it seems like one big song.
