Does anyone know which aftermarket oil filter actually includes the right size rubber o-ring gasket with it. Every one i've gotten so far has an o-ring that is too big to use and I would like to replace it.
I'm in Canada, so if anyone of you canucks up here know which partscanada filter it is, would be much appreciated.
why would you want an aftermarket oil filter?
Fram comes with an O ring. I can't remember the part number, but it's in the write up on the how to page. Grab some brake grease while you're at it . I'm pretty sure you'll need it.

Well they all come with an o-ring..just not the right size...so the fram one actually fits??

hah...even when i go to the suzuki dealer and get a filter...pretty sure its an aftermarket one cause their o rings didnt fit either.
fram's o ring will fit well. Just go easy on the cover bolts.
okay...looks like parts canada doesnt carry fram oil filters....just k&n, perf form, and their own partscanada brand. Anyone had experience with any of these. Or where to get fram from.
if your speaking of the o ring thats on the filter itself, i checked mine an it was good, so i just reused it, popped the one out of the new filter.
no...the oring that goes on the engine oil cover. I've changed oil three times and have yet to get a filter that has the proper size oring for this.

O-ring included.
I got my FRAM at Canadian Tire. The O-Ring fits perfectly. But chose to reuse my old one since it was in good repair...
They should be able to order them in if they don't have the right model in stock.

Alright, i'll give them a try, thx. Did they actually list for an 04 year or did you order for another year.
That oil filter hasn't changed since mid-70s. It's the same one used on every Suz 4-stroke engine in the GS lineup. My old 77 GS400 used it. Credit goes to Suzuki for making common parts for several engines, keeps costs and overhead down.
Using some silicone grease around the O-ring groove should keep one ring lasting for a bunch of filter changes.

Actually all you need is Fram Oil Filter #CH6000... There are none specific to the 04 model. Also, if you do find one at Crappy Tire, you should open up hte box and check the number slapped on the actual filter. There is word around the board that sometimes these FRAM filters get into the wrong boxes at the plant...
Good luck man... And sweet paintjob!!!
Jeff
Just out of curiosity, how big is the o-ring that you are encountering? Does it just fit, but one end keeps popping out?
I bought my filter from NAPA, (NAPA gold - WIX inside I think)
O-Ring Fit perfectly.

Haha...damn...too bad i missed this post...went to Canadian Junk after work looked in the motorcycle section first...found some that said suzuki..didnt list a model. Checked with the parts counter and they didnt list a fram filter for it. Looks like i'll have to head back and see..pretty sure it was that number though too.

I've been doing some research and the PureOne oil filters from Purolator seem to be well respected. The FRAM ones get bad-mouthed a lot.
For the GS you'd be looking at the Purolator PureOne ML 16800.
http://www.pureoil.com/documents/Motorcycle_ATV/Motorcycle_ATV.pdfI found a place in Kitchener (Monarch Oil) on Victoria which will sell 'em for $9 and change. Seems a bit pricey compared to some others but I'm gonna give it a try. I figure if I do my own oil change I can afford to splurge on the filter a little. :thumb:

What was the WIX model on the NAPA gold filter? #24931?

Yep, cause they are no good, IMO. Cardboard endcaps, loose inner tubes, and filtration worse than WalMarts $2 generic filters are a few of the things that come to mind. Cut one open and you'll probably puke.
You get what you pay for.
I have been using Fram oil filters for the entire life of my GS (About 50,000km) with no issues at all. I guess it's just a matter of personal preference.
daneilah - I work right beside Monarch Oil, and I never knew you could get oil filters from them. Can you get a case of filters with the o-rings for a cut-rate?

Took a trip for lunch - Local NAPA didn't have the 4931 filter in stock so I couldn't look at it. It'll be until I change my oil again before I can help you...
On preview - the trailing digits on your part number are the same as the NAPA number). coincidence? I think not!
I got an STP filter from Auto Zone and it came gasket and all. Fit like a champ and was a little under 3.50 US dollars. Suzuki wanted closer to 10 for theirs with no gasket, they charge extra for that
